This could have a huge impact on flight sims if this technology finds
its way into PCs. It also sounds like this new processor will make
very hard to pirate software.

Why? I guess it might allow you to do far more accurate airflow physics
simulations in realtime (though I'm not sure whether the algorithms are
easily parallelised), but it's not as though the kind of things that
most flight sims do today have much obvious need for massive SIMD
engines.

I may be wrong, but I suspect this will turn out to be just as much
hype as the PS2 'supercomputer' was.

I hope it's not hype. I would love to see AMD and Intel sweat bricks
and drop their prices fearing a third member in the CPU wars. I really
want that FX-55 chip when I go to upgrade in about 6 months but there's
no way I can afford it on my stinkin' salary. I got the impression
from the article that this technology could be made available in many
product lines outside of the PS3 console.

Transmeta mean anything to ya? I see a similar death for the Cell.

Well, it's no threat to Intel and AMD when it can't run x86 software
natively.
