F4 and Cougar old to new

| I haven't used F4 for a while. I have an early commercial version of F4. My
PC now runs XP Pro. What is the quickest cleanest way to install and run F4
with the shortest upgrade "path". I have the Falcon sp3 installer (78mb)
file circa 2002. What and where is the current latest update and how do I
install the whole mess?
I also have a Cougar HOTAS. I was on the original waiting list when it was
announced and waited about 8 months or so for it to be developed but got out
of flight sims during that time and after I received it I put it in a closet
and have never opened the box. hard to believe but true. So anyway, I assume
that I just need the latest drivers from the Thrustmaster site and it should
work with XP Pro and F4 or am I in for some surprises. I have the old elite
rudder pedals too. I was an F3 fanatic but things happened and I never
really got going with F4

Can't answer your questions on F4, but on the Cougar Hotas:
Got to http://cougar.frugalsworld.com/
You can download all the latest drivers/software you will need for your
Cougar. READ the directions carefully, then read them again.
Do everything as it says, from installing the CCP, to Foxy, to flashing the
firmware. Pay close attention to have the throttle unplugged when flashing
the firmware - it has been known to mess up the throttle pot in the past.
You can also download a pretty good variety of flight sim profiles from
there as well, to get you started.
I use my Cougar with the Elite Pedals also, and love the combination. You
might even peruse the forums to learn more about some of the Cougar's pros
and cons, and some examples of what others have done to modify and help what
they perceived needed it.
Good luck,

| Quickest way to get the latest F4 is:
Install F4 right from the CD end then run the FF3
(http://www.freefalcon.com/) patch. More you don't need.
You can from then on install 2 hotfixes, extra cockpits
(http://www.cockpits.nl/index2.html these simple the best although the
1600x1200 versions are payware: 10$ each, for a taste, just select a few
pics in the gallery and keep a napkin ready to drewl), terrain and
campaigns.
A second option doing the "dance" where you start with the same clean F4
install, then add the 1.08 official patch, add SP3 or SP4 (depending of your
choise including patches or hotfixes for these), and optional install
further to BMS or FF and then add the pits, terrain etc...
You can find a lot more info on
http://forums.frugalsworld.com/vbb/...isplay.php?f=11
Cougar: If you're not used to the previous Trustmaster Hotas, you might be
in for a shock. Although the Cougar looks beautiful on the outside, it's the
inside which makes it work and that is just crappy worksmanship. To get it
up to the outside standards, you can mod the inside. Various options
available, one already more expensive then the other (or you can do it
yourself if you have the skills). Don already has provided the link
(previous post). Once modded, this HOTAS becomes a wonderfull piece of
equipment.
