The thing that bothers me the most about PF is the insipid voices they use.
I just want to strangle my computer every time I here the sing songy, somewhat
gay " I'll be right there". And that "Numba one" is killing me as well. I
guess taking a microphone to a gay bar after last call is one way to cut
production costs.

You can make your own set of voices.

I did one to add French voices a while back. It is quite long, but
rather easy with a software like SoundForge.

Keep in mind that the radio used a laryngophone system that resulted in
a rather high pitched voice.

Once upon a time, there were some some games called the "Great Naval
Battles" series. They were pretty good real time strategy games that
were very realistic. Anyway, if you played as the German Navy, a German
officer (helmsman?) would answer "Jawohl, Mein Kapitan" every time you
clicked a button to give an order. Man-- you'd be firing all the
Bismarck's guns and launching torpedoes and hearing the cries of the
wounded dying for The Fatherland...

.... and then that guy would pop in and take you right back to a Cabaret
in Berlin in the '30's! Where men were men and boys were girls!

There was something about the way he said it... it sounded flirty no
matter how much you tried to ignore it.

"Flank speed! Reload starboard torpedo tubes!"

"Ja-whoooool, Mein Kap-i-tan *wink*!"

Anybody else remember that damn thing?

US Navy Fighters spoiled us all--inspired by their Chuck Yeager vo in CYAC, the
wingman/GIB was great:
"O'm gittin' a hard-on!"
