God only knows - but have you *seen* that thing? It looks like R2D2 on acid.
And the worst thing is they *put back in twist-rudder*. No more rudder bar on
the thruster.

Plus it's a Saitek so that means you'll be replacing it every 6 months.

Good, I hate the rudder bar on my X45. Gimme twist-rudder any day of
the week as long as I don't have rudder pedals.

You guys can be so lame somethimes. Go play with your overprice
oversized CH geat....or better yet, spend a mortgage payment on a
defecive Cougar..yea.
The twist rudder has a LOCK feature, and anyone worth a crap has
peddals. My saitek sticks last typically 1-2 years and the only thing
that has worn out is hat #1...which I dont have to worry about with my
TIR.
Now about the damn queston

A little defensive or put out that you cannot afford the CH gear
mayhapse? I went from the F-22 to the x-45 back to a modded F-22 to the
CH hardware and have been very pleased with it.

One year...yep that mirrors my experience with the x45. I had to replace
it once a year. Given that my F-22 lasted almost 10 times that I find
the idea of replacing a stick one a year to be pretty pathetic. I would
far rather spend up front for good gear that is going to last than
continually fork out for a repple stick on a yearly basis.
Saitek might have had a sale here except they put in the twist-grip
(regardless if it can be locked as the last stick I tried with a twist-
grip never calibrated correctly or would lock correctly) and they just
had to keep that lame 'missle lock' cover. Ah well, maybe some day they
will wake up and realize that if they put some thought into it, ditched a
few of the goofy features and provided what the sim-pilots really want
they could seriously challenge CH for the sim-controller market.

It should be hitting shelves in the USA this week - a few people already
have them.
& for the others as well as my CH Pro Fighterstick USB, Pro Throttle USB &
Pro Pedals USB I still have a fully working X36USB after 4 years of use.
Whilst I prefer the CH stick I prefer the Saitek throttle.
From the little user feedback already posted the X52 is sounding good - I
might just have to look at 1 too.
Saitek have a 2 year warranty so should it break after a year (although they
have switched to metal for some parts) then get it replaced foc.

Hey, I have two Cougars, what about them is defective? Just curious, mine
seems to perform very well, and I happen to like it very much.
Yeah, I will probably get one of the mods for one of them, just to make
something good even better. I wouldn't call them defective though.

LOL - talk about begin lame, making judgements on others based on the equipment
they're using. As it turns out, I use my old X45 thruster/rudder in my left
hand, and a Microsoft (yes! you heard me) FFB2 in my right. I don't have an
immediate need for actual pedals.

My *first* X45 broke within six months (the stick). I had to go back and get a
new stick - I *was* going to just get another one, but instead got the MS FFB2
and have never looked back. The stick on the X45 setup is so lame - thank god
I'm not using it anymore.
If the thruster/rudder ever dies on me I'll probably go ahead and upgrade to CH
gear at that time.

| Jay Williams 2004-11-16, 5:08 pm |
| I assume my x45 isn't broken and didn't claim it was. It's been sitting in
my closet since buying a Bob Church Chips TMS setup, so I assume it still
works. I might give it to my six year old if she ever develops an interest.
My problem was that the stick, when purchased, advertised "Works with XP"
but there were no XP drivers. It was about a year and 1/2 before XP drivers
came out. The 98se drivers and software were also buggy as hell, and worse,
alterted internet explorer to make it buggy as hell (and if you'll remember
98se, IE was integral to the operating system.) So not only was the
joystick software hosed, installing it hosed my 98se as well. I finally
gave up and removed the stick after a year of waiting. Refomat and
re-install to get IE working properly again. I periodically checked back on
Ron Hunt's website and the Saitek site to see if XP drivers and software
ever became available. It did, but the new software then didn't work with
98se. Months later, the posted "beta" 98se drivers. I reinstalled the
stick and was as hosed as ever. Another reformat, re-install and the stick
hasn't seen daylight since. I conspicuously avoid Saitek anything now. I
wouldn't buy a Saitek joystick if it included a gorgeous fraulein who
couldn't say "no" in any language.
I don't think that even Ron Hunt (who used to be the Saitek guru) wastes
time with Saitek anymore.
Currently I use an old Logitech Wingman Force (the kind with both serial and
usb connectors) and CH pro pedals for prop sims, and a thrustmaster F22 /
TQS / RCS (with Bob Church's SWF chips) setup for jet sims. These work,
they work everytime, and I don't have to hose the operating system to get
them to work.

FWIW, I never had any problems with SGE 3.0 running on Win98, maybe
it was just me. I know lots of folks were using the Dhauzimmer
drivers instead. Also, it took them forever to get Win XP drivers,
and anyone who had moved to XP would have to be thoroughly pissed
(in the US sense of the term). But the current SST setup for WinXP
works for me, though the way Saitek gets the profiler to work seems
kind of convoluted.

I hope one can reassign this function to a rudder-pedals! Is it possible to
operate analogue rudder pedals together with a USB Stick / combo, anyone?

CH t'aint expensive....cougar is expensive, CH is just too big. They
made the stick based on a stick that is used wearing class 1 insulated
flight gloves....I dont know about you, but Im not quite THAT into my
games of Falcon. But the Saitek sticks are a good bargain, $75 for a
set thats about 3 CH sets.
As for the cougar, I know a dozzen people who bought them, and only
