Screw the reviews, PF is good
|
|
|
| I'm liking PF. The time skip feature is all I've ever wanted from the IL2
series and now I have it. Haven't managed a carrier landing yet, but will
continue trying. I only wish they'd included an RNZAF campaign but the
Aussie one will do.
One question tho, were the Jap planes really so flimsy? they explode mighty
easy.

| Good to know I'm not alone. That sucks. I know those memory leaks aren't
always the easiest to target in programming, but dammit, if that is the case
I sure hope they fix it. Oleg seems good about delivering a quality product,
but would rather they spend a little more time with bugs like this than
trying to sell new product. Starting to sound cliche, but its the truth.

Maybe not directly, but indirectly. I can tell you from personal experience
that delivering a quality software product - even after the initial sale is
made - is extremely important in the long run.

paste it.
Darn fun sim...though it was a bit strange to be asked to defend the
carrier with an SBD.

| Have I missed something or did you miss the fact that you have new
campaigns for both the Japanese and USN side as either a Bomber Pilot
or Fighter pilot. Why dont they qualify for you?
General question has the close up Gunsight been in the game long? That
is terrific and am using it already.

I *still* haven't managed one with full realism and cockpit on. I might
have done one but forgot to drop my hook so went flying off the end again.

| Not really strange for the SBD to defend the carriers. The Lex and Yorktown
both had their bombers on anti-torp plane defense during the Coral Sea
battle. Some did pretty good while most of them didn't see much action
since the Japanese planes came in a little higher than expected and sorta
hopped right over them.

| To the OP, yes the Zero was that flimsy. The reason was no self-sealing
tanks, and, unfortunately for the pilot, no armor. The AVG, and later the
Navy boys, found that a burst in the cockpit area or the wing root area
would usually bring the a/c down either with a dead pilot or as a flamer.

Are you confused James some posts you sign some posts you dont...thats your
problem not mine. If it is important to you then I suggest you sign each of your
posts of quit complaining. Or just remember what you write. Do try and keep up.
Again all of this avoids the question why dont the included campaigns qualify as

two different countries certainly qualifies, why doesnt it for you?

I'll tell ya'll that I made my first landing, then missed A BUNCH. I think
you really gotta get the AOA right or the hook misses. Oh, and landing too
close to the bow seems to mess it up too. Of course, I COULD actually

a whole session to get planes to crash into ships, now just
make their last waypoint close to ship and 'SET' target pointer to the ship.

| Papa:
With all due respect, take a look at the text my newsreader is including in this
reply. Do you see how it says ""PAPADOC" <PAPADOC@jimbobs.drive.by> wrote in
message ..."? That is what I'm talking about. Others reading my reply can tell
who wrote the text I'm replying to by looking at this line - they don't have to
search around for a "signature" from you. Every newsreader I ever used
(Outlook, Forte, Pan and XNews to name a couple) do this for you automatically.
However, in your replies, there is no reference to the quoted person at all.
That suggests either your newsreader is not doing this for you, or you are
somehow cutting out this text when posting.
I'm only suggesting this because your posts seem to be the only ones that don't
do this. Out of the dozens of posts and replies I make here on an almost daily
basis, it becomes very difficult to remember exactly what I said in each one,
especially when snipped or quoted only in part.
If you don't care to follow the conventions of everyone else that's fine - but
it only detracts from your posts in that we sometimes have no idea who or what
you're talking about or replying to. Coming from someone like yourself who has
a lot to say, it's a shame to lose some or all of your audience just because of
a misconfiguration or an editing mistake.

James

Cool....hehehehe.
All I have been doing is quick missions 16 against 8. KI-64's and A6's set at
ACE against my boys in Corsairs at Ace. We been getting our asses handed to us.

| Kamikazi programs real good now, finally, use to take
a whole session to get planes to crash into ships, now just
make their last waypoint close to ship and 'SET' target pointer to the ship.

Are you confused James some posts you sign some posts you dont...thats your
problem not mine. If it is important to you then I suggest you sign each of your
posts of quit complaining. Or just remember what you write. Do try and keep up.

Correct communication based on accepted norms certainly makes things easier.
This link seems to be recommended often.
http://members.fortunecity.com/nnqweb/nquote.html
OE, which I use as well, is more geared toward Email, with the cursor
plunked on top of the text when you reply.
Folks not reading up on the "norms" of Usenet, follow the Email method.
As a result we get a dogs breakfast of posting styles (I'm certainly guilty
of that).
I found this utility for OE that helps tidy things up.
http://home.in.tum.de/~jain/software/oe-quotefix/
Wish M$ would make the option to place the cursor at the bottom of the text,
when replying.
I'll add these two links to the FAQ on Dec. 1st.

Regards,
James
