slight jerking motion-take off
|
|
|
| I had a slight jerking motion (about 1/2 sec.) while barreling down
the runway every 4-5 seconds. In addition ground scenery did the same
thing after lift off. I installed Radeon 9800Pro and it still has the
runway hesitation, although not as frequent and now have smooth ground
scenery. So looks like one problem was fixed but not the runway
jerking.
I have FS9, XP.
Any suggestions as to what I may have wrong?
TIA
Eddie

| Can't get too specific without knowing what flight sim you're talking
about...
In general though, you might want to turn down the detail, turn off
unnecessary background processes, turn off your anti-virus while playing the
game, etc.

He did say which game. FS9 = MS Flightsim 2004.
I play FS9 on a 9800pro and don't experience any jerking during
takeoff. Need to know more about cpu and amount of ram you have.
Turn all graphics to low and see if it still jerks.

| Sorry, you're right. I missed it.
FS9 is a ram hog... I run it on XP with 1 gig.
9800pro isn't the fastest card out there any more, but it's still a fast,
respectable card and was considered pretty "blazing" early in FS9's life.
I'd look for a ram shortage as my best guess.
Any addon's at this airport? If he has a lot of added objects via FSE or
similar, I've had that cause some jerking as well, but my first guess would
be that there's not as much ram available to the program as it's wanting.
Sounds like he either needs to free up some of the ram on the machine by
stopping other processes / programs or buy more ram

| Might be your sound card. I had the same problem using the onboard sound card. Just installed a Sound Blaster card
yesterday and get 3-15 FPS more with not jerky motion at taxi or takeoff. The test is easy. Hit Q which turns sound
off on FS9 and takeoff.

| I might add you can also run dxdiag and run the sound checks. Your card may not support hardware acceleration as my on
board didn't.
