Author Confidential Mission question (no foreign light gun?)

This past week I picked up a used copy of Confidential Mission locally
for the Dreamcast. This is one of a few DC games I never got around to
picking up that I wanted to play. So I dig out my DC and hook it up, but
when I plug in my trusty Japanese light gun I get the message:

"No foreign light guns allowed!"

WTF? I know this is a old game and all, but is there any sort of work
around for this? It's pretty shitty they locked out the import guns as Sega
didn't release a first party light gun in the US. It works with all my
other light gun games, but not this one. Suggestions anyone? Maybe I
should just buy a used light gun off eBay....

The workarounds are all pretty crappy. One way is to rip the GD-ROM image,
patch it (to accept the light gun and still run on the US-region console)
and reburn it to a CD. Another way is to desolder the ROM in the light gun
and drop in the chip from one of the American third-party guns. Either
way, you're looking at an overly expensive amount of labor.

The easy fix is to get an American light gun, unfortunately. I would stay
away from the Pelican-branded one, as the trigger has linear motion
instead of arc motion (and feels funny.) The Mad Catz one is most like the
Japanese gun, and is functionally well calibrated so I recommend that one
over all others. There's a third American gun that has the D-pad on the
side and looks like it was built in a wood shop, and you should definitely
not pick one of those up.

Gah! Ah well.... thanks for your gun suggestions. I remember all the
complaints about the US released light guns, so I never picked one up. The
only other gun games I have is an import copy of HOTD 2 and Virtua Cop 2
from the Smash Pack, so I didn't know they locked out the import gun. Maybe
I should just track down a import copy of this game.

Thanks!

Never go for the Pelican, they aren't that good.
