No, they're not--not more than usual, anyway. They come and go, as always,
but this generation has been kinder than the last two. The budget market
has grown this generation, with new games arriving at $40, $30, or even $20
or lower. The studios making those games are doing alright. That's what
scares EA, Activision, and some others, not high production costs. They're
losing some business (although not much) to the low-end, and want to make up
for it by gauging the customer.

I don't know why you want to defend them for it.
