Author Dreamcast - Part 2...

HeadHunter - IMO, one of the best, if not THE best game on the DC. I know that's
got to be all sorts of innaccurate, but I just really love it. Graphics are
absolutely to die for, the gamplay is MGS-like, but actually quite friendly. The
storry isn't too bad either...and those FMV's are so Robocop-ish, it's just
great. UK-only release, sadly...BUT, it has a Hz setting for those of us in the
US who want to import it(I did, the day it came out).

Hydro Thunder - Rockin' conversion of the arcade game. Though it does looks a
little bit of graphic luster, it's really hard to tell unless you've just played
the hell out of it at the arcade(like I have, hell, the guys at GameWorks should
have just sold me the damn cabinet). Has a few DC-only tracks and boats(will be
interested in seeing if Midway puts in the extra effort to add those in to the
upcoming MAT v3). One of the cool things about this one: Very little is actually
lost via split screen, 2 player mode, like just a few of the water's
effects...that's about it.

Illbleed - Got it off a buddy...don't much care for the actual game, but the
story bits and blatant violence are just a riot.

Incoming - A really sort of....odd title by Rage Software. I say that as the
game's graphics look to be barely N64 quality(though without the shitty
framerate issue that *every* N64 game has). You get to use a variety of things
to attack oncoming forces like a stationary canon, a helicopter and even a
tank(IIRC). It's pretty-low end...but I kind of dig it just for mindless
shooting that it provides.

King of Fighters Evolution, The - Upgraded and ultra-hip conversion of KoF 99.
Like Dream Match(KoF 98) you get full 3D backgrounds and some nice 3D effects on
certain moves. More than that though, I just really like KoF 99, the changes
they made to the gameplay(Strikers, various character changes, especially
Robert).

Looney Toons Space Race - Pretty cool cell-shaded, cartoon racer. The track
designs seem to be a bit rough as I find myself flying right off the track a lot
of the time. Maybe just more practice is needed. Just out of curiosity, does
anyone have a list of the cell-shaded games on the DC? Jet Grind Radio...etc?

MagForce Racing - I vaguely remember this one...some sort of hover-racing game
IIRC. I remember liking it, but thinking it really wasn't anything too special.
Need to give it another shot. Anyone have any thoughts on this one?

Maken X - I had never played or even given this game a chance up until the point
at which I bought it in a lot, from someone here in RGVS. Very, very, very cool
game! Played from a first person point of view, you move about, jumping from
body to body as you gain new weapons and abilities. If you've not ever tried it,
it's dirt cheap nowadays, so pick it up!!!

Marvel vs Capcom - Near perfect conversion, and plays *damn* good(as everything
does) on the Saturn pad(with the converter). Even though MvsC 2 is better in
virtually every respect, I still like going back and playing this one, just for
kicks.

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 - Another near perfect conversion(no brainer as it was on
that DC arcade board, IIRC) that plays XXXXing well on both the DC's and,
especially, Saturn's pad. Can't remember if they added anything new from the
arcade game...but I do know the character you initially start out with *is*
different from the arcade.

Metropolis Street Racer - Another I got in that lot of DC stuff....man, I *hate*
this game. I think it's just too sim-ish for me...

Metal Gear Solid, Bleem!: - One of the three Bleem discs to ever make it out to
retail. Probably the best of the series, imo(though GT fans will disagree). It's
amazing how much better MGS looks via Bleem...though now with Twin Snakes out on
GC, it's not nearly as impressive as it once was. Being a huge fan of the
*first* MGS, I'll eventually play all the way through this one before picking up
Twin Snakes...

Midway's Greatest Arcade Hits: Volume 2 - I can't remember why I bought
this....but I do know that I don't care for most of the games on it. Ah well,
it'll come to me at some point down the line...

Mortal Kombat Gold - A seriously upgraded version of MK4. Using the original
high-res textures the MK team initially created, before having to dumb them down
for the unbelievably underpowered "Zeus" board, Eurocom has upped the framerate
to a solid 60 fps and added four new characters two "classic" backgrounds.
They've also increased the polygon count of every character, so they just look
really good. A lot of MK fans didn't much care for MK4, and I can't say as I
understand...but for those of you who did, MKG is the ultimate version. For more
thoughts:
http://www.whipassgaming.com/genesi...kombatgold.html

NFL Blitz 2000 - Haven't put a whole lot of time in with this one, though I do
like what I've seen of it so far. Arcade-football that stretches the rules just
a bit...;)

Omikron: The Nomad Soul - A lot of people really hate this one, and after
playing it I can definitely see why...though to tell you the truth, it's almost
like you're seeing a very early GTA3. The city really is alive, and just can
pretty much just walk around and do what you want a lot of the time. The
graphics are pretty piss poor(from the screenshots I've seen, they weren't that
much better on the PC), but the story is really interesting. I'll probably do a
few more shots and try to continue on from where I left off the first time
around I was doing shots and decided to give it a shot. ;)

Phantasy Star Online - Quite possibly the greatest exp. in my gaming life. Being
that it was my first real encounter with any game online, this just blew me
away. Loved playing this thing every night with buddies. Until the hackers just
ruined it, it rocked.

Phantasy Star Online v.2 - Slightly updated and pay-per-play version of PSO. The
fact that you had to pay to play it online now really did kill a lot of the
cheating...but as PSO v1 players shared the same server as PSO v2 players, the
element(and the punk-XXX teens) were still there. Thank God Sega allowed for
"v2-only" games that kept those XXXXers out.

Plasma Sword - Pretty lazy conversion of the arcade game. No 3D
backgrounds...just flat-XXX wallpaper 2D bitmaps(yeehaw)...even the characters
don't look that great. Ah well, it still plays really well and is quite a bit of
fun.

Part 3 coming at you soon!

I don't enjoy sim games, but I really liked MSR. For those not aware,
MSR is essentially Project Gotham Racing.

No. No it doesn't. Awful fighter.

Rage never made one title worth a damn.

Dull. The cars look like they were desgined by some Sweedish dude that
usually designs office supplies like trendy staplers etc.

Meh. Looks like a PS1 game.

Typically bland Capcom 3d Fighter.

Hate is a strong word for MSR. It is still the only game I actually
injured myself with ( blisters on thumb). Still only to level 13. Yeah,
I could see where you could hate it. Still better than tokyo street
racer though.

Same here (on both counts). It's a total pain at the start, but once
you get a few chapters in it gets a lot more fun. Sounds like it's my
turn to say "stick with it", Bel... :-)

It's a great port, with some nice extras(the "Chumdinger" boat with the old man and
the dog is just XXXXing great). If you get it, BE SURE you get the version that has
the "Hot, New" sticker on the cover as this is the second edition of the game that
has a few fixes(including VMU support).

The local GameWorks has both of these, and people still play them. Mostly, I notice,
that GW is only interested in deluxe games with huge cabinets that they can charge
$0.75 or more to play.

I've not ever played that one, but I'm more of Daytona CCE, Outrun 2, psuedo-arcade
racer kinda guy.

You know it. I've already played through it once via just the regular PSX, have
played through quite a bit via Bleem, but want to start over and go through all of
it.

Some of the old school arcade games are alright, like Smash TV and a few others, but
for the most part, I agree with you.

Hehehhe, yeah, I think everyone I've ever told my thought of MSR on tells me this. It's
like Rainbow Six on the DC, or Ghost Recon on the Xbox...I just can't get into it no
matter how much I try.
