Author Dreamcast - Part 1...

4 Wheel Thunder - Part of Midways "Thunder" series(Hydro, Arctic, etc) though
not done by the same people I am told. It's pretty much what you'd expect: An
arcade racer with huge amounts of speed, crazy track designs and a lot of racing
action. I really like it...though not nearly as much as Hydro or Arctic Thunder.

4X4 Evolution - Port of the Mac/PC game. Really slow, psuedo-realistic driving
game. The only real redeeming value of this game is that people on a Mac/PC can
actually host the game while those on the DC can join in on it. I've heard that
it'll even allow for custom tracks to be played via this method on the DC.

Alien Front Online - Might have been fun online, but I got it quite a while
after the DC had died(a buddy gave it to me) and never got a chance to try it
out. Not real impressed with the offline play...though it's not too terrible.

Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare - I was really surprised at how good this
was. A buddy of mine brought it over, and just the who "flashlight" thing
they've got going was too cool. Another RE-like game that's actually better than
RE...

Bleemcast! - The leaked beta that Sony doesn't want you to know about. Sadly,
not a whole lot plays really well on it...but the things do look XXXXing nice! I
did a quick review, and ran through my entire PSX library with this beta, for
the outcome, click here:
http://www.whipassgaming.com/genesi.../bleemcast.html

Blue Stinger - Haven't put a whole lot of time into this one, got it dirt cheap
about a year ago. From what I hear, you'll either really like it, or just
absolutely hate it. We'll see how it goes...

Capcom vs SNK Pro - Updated version of the original CvsSNK. Now, all characters
are immediately unlocked(thank God, I can't tell you HOW many hours I put into
the original game just to XXXXing buy Guile), and Dan and Joe Higashi are now
added in. Past that, I don't think much else has been changed. A lot of people
didn't like the new SNK-ish control scheme, but it was alright to me. I loved
the backgrounds in this one, and the various character interaction(talking
before matches, etc).

Capcom vs. SNK 2 - Vastly different than the original, Capcom just went all out.
It's incredible just how deep this game can be...with 6 different grooves, over,
what, 40 characters(?) and even a Groove edit! I loved the 3D backgrounds, and
especially the appearences by former and current Capcom/SNK stars. Was cool that
they used some of the character models from SF3 for the Capcom characters.
Sadly, the only thing missing is the online play(for the US, at least), breaks
my heart that the Xbox controller sucks so much XXX(for 2D fighters) as that
version *is* online.

Carrier - A really early RE-like game that was written off as it came out only a
short while before RE: CV did. Personally, I really like it. It's dark, it's got
great atmosphere and the graphics are quite nice. For those looking for
something a bit different than RE, give this a shot.

Chicken Run - Got it for, like, $5...and that's about what its worth. Imagine a
really dumbed down MGS, but with Chickens and you'll begin to get the idea....

Crazy Taxi - You know it, you love it. Awesome conversion of the arcade
game...though I'm not sure how close/far it is from perfection. Anyone really
look into it at any point? Not that it'd matter a whole lot as it's just so much
fun to play.

Dead or Alive 2: Limited Edition - It's DOA2 with a few extras that included a
few more backgrounds and shitload of new costumes. Still plays like the
original...and you'll still most likely get bored with it after unlocking
everything(like the original). For more thoughts:
http://www.whipassgaming.com/genesisreviews/doa2le.html

Demolition Racer - No Exit - Really rocking racer that I, unfortunately,
overlooked until its clearance over at Best Buy. Not only do you race, but you
have to crash into other cars to earn points as well. They've got "bowels(think
Destruction Derby), regular tracks and all sorts of stuff. The best part about
this game has to be the co-op racing mode where you both try to crash and place
as a team. My buddy and I have played the XXXX out of this disc!

Doom Trilogy - User-made conversion of Ult. Doom, Doom II and Final Doom. Pretty
slick, though I'm not too hip to the new analog control they've added in. You
now use the analog pad to move around, which will allow you to creep along, haul
XXX and pretty much anything in between. Sadly, this has none of the mega-cool
transparency effects from the PSX version of Doom, nor the XXXXing incredible
soundtrack by Aubrey Hodges.

DreamStudio - Really low-level RPG maker....and in Japanese on top of that. You
can create small adventures(limited to the 128k on any given VMU) that can be
distributed to other who own the game. Bought it with the best of intentions,
really wanted to build something....but sadly, it's just too much work for the
10% of the DC community who actually own the "game".

Ducati World Racing Challenge - More sim-ish than I'd like, it's still a pretty
solid motocycle racer. You can customize your bike, buy new bikes, etc. I prefer
Alstare over this one, but like I said, this is still pretty solid.

Dynamite Cop - Sequel to Dynamite Deka(aka Die Hard Arcade). Really fast, and
goofy gameplay...and really short(what a surprise). Still, with a buddy, it's a
lot of fun.

Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future - Gorgeous, but XXXXing hard
continaution of the Ecco series. Sadly, Spencer Nilsen wasn't called back to do
the soundtrack(though the new guy's work isn't too bad at all). I am still
floored at how amazing this game looks.

Fighting Vipers 2 - UK-only sequel to FV. For some reason, just doesn't seem to
have whatever it was that made part 1 so special...I still can't put my finger
on it. Graphics are quite nice, and the fully 3D arenas rock though....and
Grace...well, she's gorgeous as always. ;)

Half-Life - *Unfinished* beta that got leaked. From a graphics standpoint, it
looks damn good...I mean DAMN good. I am pretty sure they used the high-res
texture pack that was release with Blue Shift. Has some framerate issues in
areas with a large amount of special effects of a lot of stuff going on in the
immediate environment. Like the PC version, it features "in-game" loading...but
much, much, much, much, much, much slower. Had they of been able to clean this
up, I think the game could have been a smash hit on the DC. For my quick review,
and some screenshots, click here:
http://www.whipassgaming.com/genesi...s/halflife.html

Alright, on to DC part 2...

Except the game is buggy enough to have a couple of crash points in it;
they can be avoided but you are more than likely to run into them if you
haven't been warned..

Soul Calibur stick works on all three consoles and is $20 (tho it won't
work with the dumbed down isms)...

Inexplicably the best of the series; 2 and 3 didn't pull me in, and the
conversions on the other consoles just felt broken.

It's a great game. Unfortunately, the online DD on PS2 isn't anything at
all like No Exit. I really wish it was.

Hmmmm, may have to look into a FAQ, see if they mention the crashing points. I had no
idea, thanks for the heads up.

Ever since the arcade died, I just can't do shit with a stick anymore...I need a
quality pad, like the Saturn's.

I never did get a chance to play either 2 or 3...but from what I hear, I won't like
them nearly as much as part 1...so I generally don't even bother picking them up when
I see them about.

Yeah, that does suck. Imagine 16 player Demolition Racer on Live or something....man,
it'd rock to no end...

CT3 is cheap, and you have an Xbox; it's worth picking up. It's got
versions of 1 and 2 on it, and gives you things like the hop in CT1, and
I think the main game is better than 2's main game, but nowhere near as
good as 1. Pretty much the main reason to pick up 2 by itself is the
minigames. The minigames in each of the CTs are worthwhile on their own
(once the game is cheap). I'd be willing to pay $20 a year for a new
Crazy Taxi minigame disc...

Actually, I over stated the case; the main racing portion of the game on
PS2 is nothing like No Exit; but you can't really change the arena
demolition formula. So it's still cool-ish in spite pf the fact that the
main game was made irritating (kinda like how Sega added irritating non
game elements to Super Monkey ball 2); the $12 or so I bought it for new
wasn't a total waste, just a disappointment from the great main game No
Exit. I haven't taken it online on the PS2 yet, but I need to in order
to see if the Arena Demolition is fun online (which there's a good
chance it will be).

Hmmmmm, isn't part 3 in Las Vegas or something? I think I gathered that much just looking
at the cover. If I can get it for around $20 or less, I may consider picking it up.

I didn't much care for the mini-games in part 1, are they pretty similar in part 2?

I may have liked them more in 2 than in 1, but that may have been
partuially due to the fact that I wasn't especially interested in
getting back to the main game in 2...
If you're going to get 3 anyways, try those minigames and see if your
opinion still holds. If so, I wouldn't bother with 2.

I played through the Japanese version and loved it.. but it's defintely a
love it
or hate it kind of game. I liked the rpg elements where you could level
yourself
up by defeating enemies and then buying vacuum sealed vending machine meats
that upped your stats in various ways.
From what I understand, the Japanese versions camera was a bit different
from the
US version. They allegedly tried to 'fix' it for the US release.. I didn't
have any
problem with the JP release so I can't vouch for which one is better,..
I think at least one dramatic moment (running away from the soon to explode
oil tank)
had some of it's dramatic impact dampened by the 'tweaked' system in the US
version.

Yeah, I never really did see Sony's objection to Bleem. I mean, sure, it's
embarassing that a piece of software is helping to run games better than they do on
your own system, but as Sony looses money on the hardware, but makes money on the
software....and Bleem encourages those without a PSX to buy PSX software, why would
they get so upset? I wished they'd have taken a more relaxed view on it, like Sega
did with the Game Genie...you know, kind of like "Sure..whatever, no big deal". ;)

Have only tried the Bleem! for Metal Gear Solid. A good product for what
it was. To bad Sony got a shit fit about it.

If you like like 2d fighters I guess its Ok. Makes a better Arcade game
though. :-)

A game that gets tedius after the first $1.50 in quarters. Not a fan.

DOA2 is one of my most played favs. A little short, but a must have for
a DC owner. The rest could stay in the bargin bin. :-D

I wished they'd have taken a more relaxed view on it, like Sega
did with the Game Genie...you know, kind of like "Sure..whatever, no big deal". ;)

Hmmmmmm, I don't know that I can agree with that, but I will say that I played the

Well, if you've got a PC, just grab it and Blue Shift and you'll do fine. ;)
