Blu-ray sales are starting to pull away from hd-dvd sales in
Amazon.com.

Although actual sales numbers are unavailable for amazon (unlike
DVDemmpire, which reports Blu-ray sales at 65% versus hd-dvd at 35%),
it is somewhat possible to gauge sales based on sales rankings,
although caveats must be employed.

BD is beating hd-dvd in terms of

1. Salesrank of top 10 products
2. Salesrank of top 25 products
3. # of titles in top 1000

Below is a snapshot of the top sales rankings for BD vs hd-dvd:

http://www.blueboard.com/temporary/...d_2007_1_27.htm

from:
http://www.eproductwars.com/dvd/index.cfm

Considering that:

1. More Blu-ray titles are slated to be released on specific dates
this year

2. The number of blu-ray players versus hd-dvd playerswill continue
will continue to grow

It can be surmised that it sales of Blu-ray will continue to gain
distance from hd-dvd sales.

Who would want to buy a hi-def player that can't play movies from FIVE
major studios, including Disney, Columbia/MGM/Sony, Lionsgate, and
20th century Fox!??!!!

So far more people have wanted to buy HD-DVD players. Maybe its the lower
price, maybe they like Universal or the Weinstein Company or New Line, maybe
they like the better picture quality(so far), maybe they have a Xbox 360,
maybe they want their regular dvd material to have the best up conversion
possible, maybe they like porn...get the picture. The Blu-Ray is spiking only
because it just came out recently. Who would want to watch The Fifth Element
in Blu-Ray when it looks like XXX compared to the regular sd version up
converted on the 360 or Toshiba stand alone!??!!! I have both so I want both
to make it and have all the great things that come with competition. Do you
think Blu-Ray would have gotten its act together with compression if HD-DVD
wasn't around? Having both I can say that HD-DVD is better right now as far as
quality is concerned. That is what I care about...the picture on my tv.

Yes... Fifth Element and a few other early Blu-ray movies supposedly
look horrible because they used a bad codec. But that issue has been
resolved. The picture quality on every current Blu-ray disk is equal
to that of HD-DVD.

The argument that Blu-ray is spiking now because it's "new" is
laughable. Blu-ray has been out half a year... it's only a few months
younger the HD-DVD. The reason Blu-ray has taken the lead is because
there are a lot more Blu-ray players in homes now. There's what... at
least triple the number of Blu-ray players in homes now than HD-DVD
players? There's the difference. And those numbers aren't going to
improve in HD-DVD's favor.

Because he has nothing to play on his beloved Playstation 3 and if the rumor
that Metal Gear Solid 4 will be delayed until next year turn out to be true,
added to the weak PS3 exclusive lineup for this year, we'll be hearing a lot
more from that dickhead.

Saleswise, Blu-Ray is a VERY new format. They sold what, 10,000 players in
all of the U.S. before the PS3 launched? And half of those 10k got
returned?

I can tell the "holy rollers" such as yourself because you keep making the
fictitious argument that 1 PS3 = 1 Blu Ray movie player. While it CAN, you
don't know how many people ARE actually watching movies. There is
absolutely no way to nail this figure down.

Perhaps people ARE buying Blu Ray movies for their PS3s because there is
nothing else to do with it at the moment. Stores around me can't give the
things away, even with promotions like Gamestop's $100 off.

You'll see things even up quite a bit between the two formats once the new
'07 titles start rolling out. January has been sort of dead so far.

And yet the price of Blu-ray players is much more.

Nope. Thats why same name titles have more sales on HD-DVD on Amazon.com. I
agree that HD-DVD needs to get more titles announced and market better but
this war is far from over.
