So not only does Sony make Europe the last market to launch in, by some
5 months, it also shafts us on price.
That's $850!!!!
WITHOUT A SINGLE GAME OR HI_DEF CABLE!!!
And, furthermore, no PS3 is available in the 20gig version!!!!
Look at it this way:
Wii: Chepast option, =A3179.
360: Cheapest option =A3200
PS3: Cheapest option =A3425.
For someone who wants to play games, the 360 and Wii are within the
same ball park, even adding a =A315 memory card to the 360 doesn't push
it out of gamers price band.
However, the PS3 is in a different league altogether!
Blu-Ray and High Def movies? Forget it. Europe's High-Definition TV
market is just starting to kick off, and a tiny proportion of people
have them compared to SDTVs. So in effect, to take full advantage of a
console costing twice as much as it's nearest competitors, consumers
will need to plonk down another minimum =A3500 for a 720p TV!
By contrast, they just need to buy a 360 to or Wii and use their
existing TV to get next-gen gaming.
Right now, you can get a 360 Premium with 2 games for =A3299

By contrast, a PS3 with 2 games will be =A3525 MINIMUM!
Add =A317.99 for the Component or HDMI cables, that's =A3543. You still
don't get a voice comm headset with that either!
Sony expects to sell 1,000,000 on launch day.
I doubt they'll sell a third of that on launch day.
People in Europe are not stupid, sure - some geeks, PS2 fan boys and
super-rich idiots will line up, but after that? SlOW SALES!
Only 2 system exclusives worth owning - Motor storm and Resistance.
(And neither of these are system sellers). 19 cross platform games that
mostly look better, or are a year or so old on the 360.
The Wii sold out at =A3179 and a free game.
Today, in my office, the sighs of dispair amongst those who really are
true PS3 fanboys - they simply cannot justify half a grand on games!
Most were discussing options - either get a mobile phone contract that
gives you a free XBOX 360, or build a new PC for that cash.
So goodbye Sony, Europe loved your PS2 - shame about the PS3...

| America isn't too happy with the PS3 and neither is Japan.... If you're
wondering what happend, it's pretty simple really. If you follow the
post in this newsgroup and other on-line forms, you know Sony has
admitted to taking a manufacturing loss of over $300+ USD on every unit
sold. This was an incredibly stupid decision made by the former
management. The new managements came into a train wreck. Regardless of
what move they make they still can't save the company, but they have to
do something for the shareholders, so they decided they aren't going to
take that $300+ dollar hit in Europe.
You can't blame them too much, the new management were put into a
kamikaze situation. Their target? Game publishers who risked a lot on
their console and of course consumers.
