| Btw, the #1 selling DVD in amazon.com is Casino Royale, and it even
isn't released yet!
http://www.i4u.com/article7691.html
And guess what, it'll be in BLU-RAY and NOT in Hddvd!!!!

| My God, not only are you short-sighted and wrong on many accounts,
you're really also an obnoxious loser. Good luck with your BR
crusade... you're going to need it as the Sony PS3 situation becomes
more and more dire.

It usually helps if you actually add some factual arguments in your
favor.

OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Another lame remake of a James Bond movie
from 40 years ago is only on bluray. David Niven must be rolling over in
his grave.

It usually helps if you read. Your errors have been pointed out en
masse both in this thread and your previous unenlightened trolling
effort.
Again, good luck with your crusade.

What crusade?
I give you actual sales figures (and # titles) showing BD catching up
then surpassing hd-dvd (even though hd-dvd had a long head start), all
you hd-dvd nutjobs give irrelevant posturings. Good arguments there.
I have yet to see anyone point out why this trend will not continue and
blu-ray won't continue to widen its lead over hd-dvd until toshiba
gives up.
For example, this week alone, there were significantly more Blu-ray
titles announced than hd-dvd:
Blu-ray
* Alien vs. Predator (Fox)
* Black Rain (Paramount)
* Casanova (Buena Vista)
* Chicago (Buena Vista)
* Courage Under Fire (Fox)
* The Guardian (2006) (Buena Vista)
* The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Buena Vista)
* The Manchurian Candidate (2004) (Paramount)
* Men of Honor (Fox)
* Saw II (Unrated) (Lionsgate)
* Saw III (Lionsgate)
* We Were Soldiers (Paramount)
HD DVD
* Black Rain (Paramount)
* Brokeback Mountain (Universal)

again you don't seem to realize that "trends" are actually what we are
seeing here, especially given the very clear line graphs that show
sales of Blu-ray rising rapidly, then overtaking hd-dvd, while hd-dvd
sales seem to have flattened since mid-2006
There are patterns and trends, even if the time spans are short. That
is, patterns are not demarcated by arbitrary time periods.
Btw, please shorten your sig.

I don't like any of the movies on this list so it doesn't matter
to me what format they got released on.

What do you think the best VietNam war depiction film was?
Just so you know, I think WWWS comes in second, but that is still
damned good.

This reminds me of DIVX, the old Pay Per View DVD format dreamed up by
Circuit City and some other providers.
Everywhere I looked I saw ads saying, 20th Century Fox will be releasing
content on DIVX formatted DVDS, so Star Wars, True Lies and Romancing the
Stone will never be released on 'open' DVD.
Disney was also a part of the DIVX group, so you weren't going to see Mary
Poppins on 'open DVD.
We all know how that turned out.
In retrospect, I wish DIVX had worked out.. someone eventually broke their
encoding scheme, so if DIVX had worked out, we would be getting movies from
the big screen to DIVX within 60 days from the end of general release, and
the cost would have been $3.99.
Honestly I don't know which format will win. I don't think the format will
take off until either Blue Ray for HD-DVD has become dominant.
I've always been an early adopter of new technology, but I'm waiting this
one out. Right now my money's on HD-DVD, only because the hardware price is
so much less than HD-DVD's.

| "This reminds me of DIVX, the old Pay Per View DVD format dreamed up by

Except this time Disney and others (especially Sony's MGMG and
Columbia) really aren't releasing in HD-DVD, especially as Blu-ray
sales already are surpassing HD-DVD sales and HD-DVD is already feeling
the heat even though it came out first and had more titles and sales at
the beginning.
"Right now my money's on HD-DVD, only because the hardware price is so
much less than HD-DVD's."
According to analysts, as manufacturing scales up, the price of Blu-ray
players could go as low as $299
The point again is CONTENT. so long as Blu-ray has content, and the
other side does not, Blu-ray will continue to increase its lead oiver
HD-DVD in sales and # titles...it's a self-fulfilling, feedback cycle.

I disagree.
It wasn't content that drove the VHS Beta war (it was recording time).
As for DIVX, I don't think Disney was going to release any films on the
open DVD format.
I do know that once DIVX was declared a failure, FOX and Disney started
releasing movies on standard DVD that they said would never be released as a
gold or silver DIVX title, let alone on open DVD.
All of those companies that have all of their eggs in one camp, will relent
if their format dies.
If Blue Ray becomes the overwhelming winner, It'll take all of 5 minutes at
a Universal Studios Board of Directors meeting to announce they will be
releasing their library on Blue Ray.
Who ever thought you'd see a Sony brand name on a VHS recorder?
I believe right the price of hardware is driving the market (HD DVD players
are outselling Blue Ray 3 or 1 if you exclude the PS3).
If, down the road Sony has a Blue Ray player $299, I'll buy one as long as
the HD-DVD players isn't $129.

Indeed. You're simply tilting at windmills, while yelling about
vanquishing giants or something.

The data doesn't conclusively support your claims. Even though BR may
have edged out HD-DVD for a month:
1: We're talking a very small difference.
2: You don't draw a conclusion based on a single instance.
If you knew anything about statistics, you'd know that. At best, you can
say "BR appears to have a slight lead after 2 months." but unless you have
a crystal ball or a newspaper from the future, you can't make any
conclusive statements about which will win.
quote:
> I have yet to see anyone point out why this trend will not continue and

One instance of a 5% difference is not a "trend". And even if this
"trend" of Blu-Ray edging out HD-DVD by 5% were to continue, a 5%
difference isn't a definitive victory. Heck, it'd barely be
distinguishable from statistical error.
quote:
> For example, this week alone, there were significantly more Blu-ray

That still means nothing since next week HD-DVD could have more
announcements than Blu-ray. What then? Should I come back here and
proclaim that, based on one data point favorable to my opinion, this
"trend" means Blu-ray will lose?
Were that the case, then Blu-Ray was losing for 5-6 months while HD-DVD
was making announcements while all Blu-Ray could say was "Maybe in a month
or two..." After all, even 1 title is greater than 0 - which is what
Blu-Ray had up until late 2006, so OBVIOUSLY, the trend is that Blu-Ray
LOST - right?

Neither format will take off until the majority of the market has a HDTV
required to even enjoy them. By that time, hybrid players will be
plentiful and cheap. Heck, once the first fully functioning hybrid player
hits the market, this whole "war" will become moot.
And even once the mass market has HDTV, what's to say they'll even be
interested in HD movies - especially when DVD players now can upscale
existing DVDs to HD. Yes, I know the quality isn't the same, but try
telling your non-technical relatives they'll need to re-buy their movie
library to get that extra little bit of quality, and see if they think
it's worth it. Standard DVD is going to be around for a long time still,
so there's a good chance that neither HD format really catches on with the
mainstream consumer even AFTER HDTVs become more commonplace than S/EDTVs
in people's houses.
HD-DVD? Blu-ray? Who cares. I still want Max Headroom released! ;)
