Drip. Drip. Drip. PS3 loses another game. Resident Evil 5 to be XBOX 360 exclusive!

| There was a time when it would be unthinkable that Sony would lose a
major global franchise. System selling in it's significance. Capcom, a
major Japanese developer, Resident Evil 5, a major franchise, will ONLY
be available ont he XBOX 360 if rumours are to be beleived. And so far,
nobody is refuting them and hints are being dropped by Microsoft
themselves.
If true, it is another blow to the PS3. When it's not just European
developers abandoning Sony exclusivity, but Japanese Developers are
actually praising the console and anouncing more and more development
for the Sony arch rival.
How long until a MGS4 remix, and Final Fantasy 13 Special Edition are
announced for the 360?

No denial from Xbox Japan boss stokes Resi 5 exclusivity chatter(News)
by Johnny Minkley
Speculation over the destination of Capcom's latest Resident Evil
horror blockbuster has been reignited, with Xbox Japan boss Takashi
Sensui refusing to deny fresh rumours that Microsoft has snatched
exclusivity for the game.
The first next-gen instalment in Capcom's lucrative zombie franchise,
which was announced for both PS3 and 360 last year, was conspicuous by
its complete absence from last week's pivotal Tokyo Game Show, despite
being pencilled in for a release by March 2007 according to the
Japanese company's own fiscal reports.
Industry chatter at the Tokyo event claimed Resident Evil's no-show is
owing to Microsoft tying up a shock exclusivity deal for 360, with an
announcement due at the US firm's X06 event in Barcelona next week.
Speaking exclusively to GamesIndustry.biz at TGS 2006, Xbox boss Sensui
refused to pour cold water on the rumour when questioned, stating that
it had already been announced for Xbox 360 and adding, somewhat
enigmatically: "All I can say is we are very good friends with Mr
Inafune [the game's producer]."
Capcom, for its part, has not made any suggestion that Resident Evil
5's original status as a PS3 and Xbox 360 title has changed. But the
former Sony stalwart has been forging increasingly close ties with
Microsoft. Survival-horror romp Dead Rising, a 360-exclusive, recently
released to great success in Europe, and a further hotly-tipped
Xbox-only title, Lost Planet, is due in January. Capcom is also
currently working on a separate Resident Evil title, Umbrella
Chronicles, exclusively for Nintendo's Wii system.
Should the rumours prove to be of substance, the securing of 360
exclusivity for Resident Evil 5 would clearly be a massive coup for
Microsoft. The series commands a huge global fanbase which would boost
its console's appeal in all territories.
Industry watchers today said the onus was now on Capcom to clarify the
status of the title in light of the current speculation. A spokesperson
for the Japanese publisher was unavailable for comment.

How is this the loss of another exclusive game/franchise for Sony? There
have been been RE games on other platforms - including one that was an
exclusive GameCube title.

| Well the majority of RE games have been on Sony consoles. Regardless,
if the rumor is true, then thats a huge loss for PS3... We should know
this soon with X06 starting tomorrow. I wouldn't be too surprised since
360 should have a strong lead over PS3 next year. With 360 in the lead,
if they throw in ca$h for an exclusive, many companies will break down
and give it to them

Both RE:Code Veronica and RE4 were temporary exclusives to the Dreamcast
and Gamecube respectively. I think Nemesis is the only RE that was
exclusive to PlayStation, and that's because the Saturn was dead. IIRC,
RE2 got a N64 release.
Heck, RE0 and the RE1 remake are still Gamecube only.

While it's not the most reputable site, it doesn't seem to be true
http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?o...d=3884&Itemid=2
"A spokesperson for Capcom said of the company's highly-anticipated next
generation action title, "Just to be clear, this is a multiplatform
simultaneous launch on PS3 and Xbox 360."
Some Internet reports implied that the game may have become an Xbox 360
exclusive."

I'll reserve judgement until some 'official' announcement. Besides,
Microsoft also said they had a GTA exclusive as well. lol.

I like to get the fanboys frothing at the mouth, shame the debunk came
in sooner rather than later, I really wanted to see Bliggy blow his
top!

Nah, they never said it was 'exclusive' - just that it was coming to
the 360.

[SNIP]
First of all, I doubt it is true.
But even if it is, it is a blow to NINTENDO more than to Sony. Yes, the
original Resident Evil game was exclusive to PlayStation, but not for long.
RE2 was released on N64. As for RE: Nemesis, perhaps Capcom couldn't get it
to work on the N64, or perhaps the N64 market was already dwindling. In any
event, when the Dreamcast came along, it got RE:Code Veronica. And when
Game Cube came along, it got all the games, a RE1 remake, and RE0...and
that's before it had RE4, which was exclusive to GameCube for several
months. So there hasn't been a single RE game exclusive to a Sony system.
If anything, when I think of the RE franchise, I think of GameCube/Nintendo.

Nah, they just verrrrry carefully worded it to give that impression without
coming right out and telling a fib. Just like they verrrrrry carefully
worded the backwards compatibility announcement to give people the
impression at first that all titles would be BC.
