Author PS3 loses another exclusive game (2 games)...(part 3)
TheGame

The key thing is this quote: Koei is "looking to appeal to Western
tastes". With PS3 losing so many exclusive games to 360, is FF next??

http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/koei/t...unch-202763.php
I just got out of a group interview with the producers of Koei's Fatal
Inertia and Bladestorm: The Hundred Years' War where they told the
group that the company's first racing game wouldn't make the November
Japanese launch.

Both games are PlayStation 3 exclusives at this point, but the company
indicated they're in discussions with Microsoft to bring the game to
their platform as well. Koei devs drove home the point multiple times
that they're looking to appeal to Western tastes, so don't be surprised
when the 360 announcement hits

Does this really come as any surprise? All i've ever seen of the game is
highres stills.

I'm trying to figure this statement out. "Leftovers"? Is Bioshock, for
example, a PS3 "leftover"? More like a PS3 "left out".

The fact is - there will be very few exclusive games for either system,

financially unsound because casual gamers only buy one console. The thing
that sucks for the casual gamer is that they've got a large library of ps2
games, and upgrading to any other console other than PS3 means selling what
they have, or trying to make room for another box. Casual gamers are just
that... casual, and are not going to want to fuss much with replacing
everything they own for one box and two games that they like. I expect a
repeat of the last gen... Sony takes all.

really?

honestly?

i think it will be a lot closer this generation than it was last. i
don't expect the PS3 to flop (tho Sony are doing their damnedest to
make it a possibility) but i think there'll be a fairly significant
sway toward microsoft this time round.

Sadly I'm afraid I'm with Brenden. We have a skewed, hardcore
perception on things. The people who are going to buy PS3 have no idea
how good the dashboard or Live or Geometry Wars is. They want to play
GTA and NFS with a dual shock on a machine that says PlayStation on the
top. It's very, very sad.

Microsoft will only have themselves to blame for any lack of general
public interest or knowlege in the 360. They have had a massive start
over Sony and what have they done with that advantage? I'm talking
advertising wise, promotion wise, informing the general public wise?

Ok I realise that this all falls under the heading advertising. If you
consider that a company such as Andrex who sell toilet paper and have a
hell of a lot of competition NEVER stop advertising their product on
prime time and non-prime time TV, magazines, billboards the lot. For
crying out loud the Andrex dog has it's own f'king web site and fan
club!

Now how many adverts have I seen for the 360 in the UK outside of games
magazines by the company that apparently have the largest budget for
advertising? Erm well I've seen erm... in the last few months? erm...
well none!

If it was me the campaign for product knowledge and domination of the
market place would have started on the release date and would still be
going now. The odd advert here and there almost as an afterthought just
doesn't cut the mustard for Joe Bloggs and his kids. They need to be
constantly reminded that the 360 is out there and why it is such a
sodding brilliant companion for the broadband connection that little
Johnny has convinced them to buy. They need it drummed into them that
it looks great in the sitting room (don't mention it's jet like DVD
drive though).

It is a well known fact that the UK general public buy products that
have been rammed down their throughts by rabid advertising companies.
Sony know this and soon their machine will start. If MS lose this race
they only have themselves to blame.

Sorry charlie, but "casual gamers" are not going to spend $700 for
console gaming... Besides,
who will want to even look at bad looking PS2 games once you play
next-gen games? I haven't
touched my PS2 since I got 360.

Wrong. There are many converts to 360. I owned PS and PS2, never owned
XB. But I have a 360 cuz I am tired of the crap sony is pulling

Wrong. You read internet newsgroups, fora, websites, etc. and have far
more of a clue about Sony and the industry than the casual punter. Do
you think 95% of people who own a PS2 have any idea that it was delayed
or would have a clue what you were on about if you started talking
about giant enemy crabs or real-time weapon change? A large number of
the clued up PS2 fans who are online and clued up are switching to MS,
yes, but I don't see that necessarily spreading to the retarded masses.

but you expect the "retarded masses" to be willing to pay 500+ quid
for a PS3 at launch?

i know i certainly don't expect that to happen, Sony are pricing
themselves out of their own market, tbh.

I dunno. I have a skewed opinion, I'm from Bradford, where everyone
buys a PS2 to play GTA and NFS, innit, but I'm sure given they all seem
to find the money from somewhere (can't begin to think where) to buy
brand new Imprezas and Evos, I'm sure they'll manage.

If you think that people (not *everyone* of course) do not know that
PS3 price is going to be far greater than $299, then you must not know
that local and national news and newspapers, game mags, general mags,
MTV, etc have reported on PS3 price. You must think console gaming is
still a niche market when it is actually big biz. Hell, when M$
announced that Pacman and other old arcade games were coming to XBL,
the hourly national news of my local news radio covered it. So yes,
many PS2 owners (not all of course) have bought a 360 after hearing PS3
price. I personally know of 2 people who did. Another PS2 owner I know
plan to get a Wii instead of PS3 due to its price.

Heh true and that was my point too. Since you said "quid", I really
don't think euro/UK gamers will wait, esp with how the mainstream and
game media coverage of Sony dissing those markets with yet another
delay. 360 should really sell well there this "holiday" season...

Maybe the US media is a little more informative and balanced than our
own then. Gaming doesn't get a look in in the conventional media here
in the UK, beyond a tiny column of game reviews, maybe 3-5 reviews of
<100 words each in a small back page in a newspaper once a week. I
listen a lot to BBC Radio 5, the BBC's news radio station. During the
last 5 years I've heard them mention games 3 times (not including cases
like the Manhunt murder incident), being the release of Halo 2 (a two
minute feature on how it was the biggest entertainment product of all
time seemed a bit odd!), they mentioned the 360 was out on launch day
briefly, and then a big long story on how ace PSP was, and that it
could play DVDs.

Outside specialist gaming press and the internet, I haven't once seen a
mention in any UK media as to what the PS3's price will be. I know full
well console gaming is huge business and by no means niche, and that
the big runners like Halo and GTA amass obscene figures (the stat I
referred to before was Halo 2 taking $125 million in its first 24 hours
on sale, no film or album in history has ever touched that figure, and
to compare, Spiderman 2, the highest grossing film ever, took $70m in
its first 48 hours at the box office), but the UK press don't treat it
as such. I don't know what the situation is in the States, but if
gaming gets the mainstream coverage that the sales figures surely
entitle it to, I'm very envious. I dream of the day that my local news
program reports XBLA releases!

you'd be surprised how many chavs, etc, are into Xbox over PS2 though,
i know i was when i worked for Game.

plus you have to remember that both those titles will be on the 360,
need for speed carbon before this christmas, and gta on the same day
as it will be on PS3.

now as the games will look nigh on identical on both systems, and the
360 will undoubtedly be a hell of a lot cheaper than the PS3 for a
good while yet...

anyway, you're right, it is that market that MS need to drag away from
sony if they want to 'succeed', but i do think theyve got a good
chance of doing it.

Aye, but people are stupid. How many people bought a PS2 over an Xbox
because it would play their PS1 library, and then once they got it
never once played a PS1 game on it? A very, very big number.

Well obvious PS2 owners already own a PS2. And the trade-in value of
PS2 is useless. Thus I still have my PS2, I just haven't used it for
games or anything else...

It doesn't make sense to advertise "the console". Sega learned that the
hard way. "It's Thinking"??? Pu-lease. Show me games. Not geeks
bouncing on a couch going ga-ga about being able to plug in a phone line
to their Dreamcast. There weren't any games shown...mainly because there
weren't any online games at that time - but OOH! ONLINE! WOOT!

Anyways. I have seen some 360 game ads even if the game in question was
for multiple platforms. COD2 was a good example. Gameplay shown was from
the 360 and the ad ended with the Xbox 360 splash logo. Even other
games that are avilable on the PS2 showed the Xbox 360 logo so obviously
Microsoft is spending money here.

In fact, most of the video game ads I see nowadays put Xbox 360 on the
screen.

But one thing that seems odd is that I don't see that many video game ads
- even during programs that would be their prime target like the Adult
Swim block on Cartoon Network. Their demographic is EXACTLY the same as
the one that Sony and Microsoft is targetting.

That's generally true for everyone. Pound your brandname into the
public's head with a red-hot, two tonne mallet. And when you're done, DO
IT AGAIN.

Wait until the so-called retarded masses show up to find empty shelves
that say "PS3 - 'only' $600" next to fully stocked shelves of 360s for
$400. Well, OK, they'll probably buy the $300 360, but still...

Or, more likely, they'll stay away until the first round of price drops
hit next spring. Then it'll be interesting. $300 premium 360
(speculation on my part) vs. $500-600 PS3?

Is that the same ad for COD2 that got pulled last Christmas when a
bunch of people bought the game and it didn't look like the ad (since
the 'gameplay' shown was all CGI and not 360) and complained to the ASA?

No one will have any inventory at launch. You know they'll sell every
single PS3 at the midnight launch events and then it'll probably be
another 2 or 3 weeks before another shipment trickles in - only to be sold
before the truck even reaches the loading dock.

The masses won't have a chance to buy a PS3 until around March 2007 - if
the PS2 and 360's launches are any indication. And that assumes the parts
shortage is resolved. If we don't hear promising news from Sony saying
they suddenly found a magical blue-diode producing tree things will be
very grim indeed.

Hadn't heard that. The ad showed what looked like game footage of of a
tank getting blown up and a plane flying overhead. I'm sure there was
plenty of small text explaining what equipment was used for the game
footage, and that actual images may vary due to your TV and/or console
and/or PC used, blah blah blah. But then, who can actually read the small
print on those TV ads anyways?

Not sure, but thats the same COD2 game that has sold over a million
copies on 360 in U$ alone... ;-)

He's probably like me, posting through Google through an account that's
ages old. Heck, I've changed ISPs 3 or 4 times since this Earthlink
account was active. But that's what I signed up on DejaNews with and
that's what I'm stuck with. Except for the times I'm still logged in
with my G-Mail account.
