The only way of taking up tens of gigabytes of additional space without
spending reams of additional money on creating assets is by a) having
high-def, pre-rendered cinematics, which are still time consuming and
expensive to create, or b) using uncompressed textures and audio, which is
ultimately more of a disadvantage, since they take longer to load and occupy
more space in memory. Rockstar isn't going to say, "Hey, since we have all
this space, let's create an entire COUNTRY instead of just a city!" because
it would take an immense amount of additional money and time to do so.
People seem to think assets and game code just materialize out of thin air
to fill whatever space is available. People have to MAKE these things you
know.

Gates denies he ever said that, and no one has ever been able to point to
attribution. It's an urban legend.

IYHO maybe, but it also translates to better sales. You think Dead Rising
would be selling as insanely well as it is if there wasn't a demo? The same
effect will happen with Saint's Row, believe me. Lots of people, myself
included, thought the game would be a shitty GTA clone, until we played the
demo. Now I will be buying it on day one.
If Sony doesn't want to offer downloadable demos, that's their call. But
it's gamers' loss, and one advantage XBL will have over Playstation Live.
(As if they'd ever call it something that simple... the company that brought
us "Infrastructure and Ad-Hoc Mode" and "The Cross Media Bar" will certainly
find some obstuse and nonsensical name for their online network.)

Afraid not. There are more Xbox 360 games currently in development than PS3
games. Go ahead and look it up.
