before power diving into the news of After Burner: Black Falcon, I
would like to point out that the
Sega Ages:After Burner remake for PS2, released in Japan in 2004, has
not made its way to these shores yet -- I would like to see that
happen. Also, After Burner: Climax, the next coin-op arcade game in
the series running on circa 2004 PC-based hardware (Lindbergh) has not
yet been announced for Xbox 360 or PS3.

okay, now about AFTER BURNER: BLACK FALCON for PSP

Sega fires up PSP After Burner
Planet Moon developing arcade-style flight sim based on Sega's classic
franchise; PSP game touches down this spring.

By Tim Surette, GameSpot

One of the very first arcade games to deliver a sensation of speed was
Sega's After Burner. The air-combat simulation was like OutRun in the
skies, using Sega's trademark three-dimensional perspective and adding
heat-seeking missiles, jet fighters, and barrel rolls.

Gamers who missed out on the action the first time around (or on the
franchise's multiple console ports) will soon be able feel the need for
speed anywhere they go, as Sega has announced After Burner: Black
Falcon for the PSP. Black Falcon is due out in spring 2007 and is
currently in development by Planet Moon Studios, the creators of Armed
& Dangerous and Infected.

The game's plot sees a terrorist cell dubbed Black Falcon planejacking
13 fighter jets from the CIA. Players will be tasked with making the
skies friendly again by screeching through the skies in an assortment
of planes, including F-14D Tomcats, F-22 Raptors, and F15E Strike
Eagles. Each plane can be customized with a variety of weapons, which
will come in handy when shooting targets in the air and on the ground.

Black Falcon will support "numerous multiplayer challenges" in both
eight-player competitive and two-player cooperative modes.

After Burner: Black Falcon has not been rated or priced.

After Burner Flies Again
SEGA sends its combat jet classic on a new, portable mission.
by David Adams

October 10, 2006 - SEGA today revealed it is working with developer
Planet Moon Studios (Infected, Armed & Dangerous) to bring After Burner
to the PlayStation Portable, confirming our suspicions that the
partnership between the companies would result in the revival of a SEGA
flight franchise.

Long-time gamers remember the After Burner arcade cabinet for its
high-speed, highly explosive fighter jet combat. Planet Moon is
revising this formula for portable gamers with After Burner: Black
Falcon, which adds customizable planes, a story-based single-player
campaign, and multiplayer options to the series' aerial action.

After Burner: Black Falcon includes 19 licensed military planes --
including the F-14D Tomcat, F-15E Strike Eagle, and F-22 Raptor -- each
of which can be tweaked with new engine components and weapons. The
single-player game casts players as part of a classified military group
tracking down plane-thieving terrorists, while ad-hoc multiplayer modes
offer both competitive and co-op play.

"As huge fans of the original After Burner, we are delighted to
re-imagine this classic arcade franchise," said Planet Moon CEO Bob
Stevenson. "Building After Burner: Black Falcon from the ground-up
enables us to craft the game with PSP features in mind with all-new
multiplayer modes, customizable jets and over-the-top gameplay. Most
importantly, it's approximately 9000% more portable than the original
arcade cabinet."

SEGA expects to clear After Burner: Black Falcon for takeoff this
spring.

After Burner: Black Falcon on PSP flight deck
By Nino Marchetti | Posted on Oct 10, 2006

Sega today said they are working with video game developer Planet Moon
Studios (makers of Giants: Citizen Kabuto, Armed & Dangerous and
Infected) on After Burner: Black Falcon for the PlayStation Portable.
This new arcade style flight combat title, due in spring 2007, will let
players relieve the After Burner arcade game. In their press release
Sega described the title as follows:

"After Burner: Black Falcon=99 takes flight with intense arcade-style
air combat where gamers fly at maximum speeds using high-powered
weapons to destroy land and air-based enemies. With a wide selection of
customisation options, players can arm each military jet with an array
of weapons, design aircraft and improve performance by installing a
variety of engine components for faster, more manoeuvrable fighter
planes. Weapons and aircraft can also be acquired in the heroic quest
to help players defeat squadrons of enemies and menacing bosses.

Numerous multiplayer challenges are available in both competitive and
co-op modes and players can challenge others via wifi in a variety of
ways, or choose to work with another ace pilot to achieve testing co-op
goals."

After Burner Locks On to PSP

We do not have the next-gen version yet, but Sega is prepping to roll
out an After Burner for the PSP.

More than a year on, there's still little we know about Sega's upcoming
next-gen After Burner game, but the company had something of a surprise
for us today, announcing that the classic arcade franchise is coming to
the PSP.

The new game, After Burner: Black Falcon, comes courtesy of Planet Moon
Studios - the same people that let you sate your zombie lust in PSP
thriller Infected.

After Burner: Black Falcon concerns itself with a dastardly villain who
has made off with 13 top-secret military planes and it's up to you,
naturally, to bring them back. Though the game is described as being
arcade-like and action-rammed, you'll still be tethered to reality
thanks to the inclusion of 19 real-life military planes.

In addition to the story mode, there are also a variety of co-operative
and competitive wireless multiplayer options to consider.

After Burner: Black Falcon will be out for PSP next spring.

After Burner Headed to PSP
Planet Moon Studios' mystery Sega game revealed.
by 1UP Staff, 10/10/2006

Sega teased about teaming with Planet Moon Studios (Armed & Dangerous,
Infected) for a PSP-bound remake of a company classic, but only today
can we confirm it's an update to After Burner, which recently
experienced a revival in the arcades, as well. After Burner: Black
Falcon actually features 19 licensed fighter planes for players to zip
around with in both single and multiplayer modes.

Planet Moon's even incorporated a storyline this time around, though
obviously thin and hokey. Basically, an underground mercenary
organization named Black Flacon has stolen 13 top-secret fighter
planes, and it's up to players to navigate "dangerous terrain" to get
them back. In other words: who cares, let's blow things up.

"As huge fans of the original After Burner, we are delighted to
re-imagine this classic arcade franchise," said Planet Moon Studios CEO
Bob Stevenson in the announcement release. "Most importantly, it's
approximately 9000% more portable than the original arcade cabinet."
Good point, Bob.

As would be expected for this kind of update, the gameplay's been
expanded, as players will now be able to custom-fit their fighter jets
with different weapons and enhancement components, such as new engines.
The game will also feature head-to-head and co-op multiplayer modes,
though the press release doesn't mention if Planet Moon's implementing
Internet support.

There's still a bit of a wait until the return to the nostalgia zone,
though, as After Burner: Black Flacon won't arrive until sometime in
2007. At least that gives Sega some time to work out an Xbox 360 and
PlayStation 3 port of the arcade game, right?

After Burner screams onto PSP
Tuesday 10-Oct-2006 4:13 PM Sega reinvents its arcade classic for the
modern day handheld age

After Burner: Black Falcon is the fruit of the recently announced
collaboration between Sega and Planet Moon Studios, it's emerged.

Shooting up PSP, the game's strictly arcade with players leaping into
the cockpits of 19 customisable military aircraft and blasting enemies
out the skies. A single-player campaign is accompanied by co-op and
competitive multiplayer modes.

Here's the scoop on the single-player plot: 13 top-secret fighter
planes have been stolen by underground mercenary organisation Black
Falcon. Obviously, it's your job to recover the aircraft, which
essentially involves blowing the shit out of other jet fighters. Go Top
Gun.

Spilling more beans on the customisation side of the game, Sega's told
us that we'll be able to arm fighter jets with an array weapons and
improve speed and manoeuvrability via a variety of engine components.
"Weapons and aircraft can also be acquired in the heroic quest to help
players defeat squadrons of enemies and menacing bosses," it added.

After Burner: Black Falcon is due out in Spring 2007.

Pimp your jet in Sega's After Burner on PSP
Planet Moon Studios is the developer doing the locking-and-loading

by Owain Bennallack

At some point in the late-1980s, every arcade in town had an After
Burner cabinet at the door. Bringing the day job of a Top Gun jet pilot
to suburbia, After Burner had a hydraulic system that threw you hither
and thither, as you took on waves of enemy planes whilst trying to look
impressive should some girl from school walk past disinterestedly.

The PSP version that Sega has just announced is 100 per cent unlikely
to include backbreaking force feedback. On the other hand, according to
its entry at Arcade-History.com, the original deluxe cabinet weighed
some 800lbs. The only way that baby could be played on the go was on
the back of a delivery van.

After Burner: Black Falcon for the PSP sees Sega delivering on its
recent commitment to bring such classic old franchises back to life on
PSP.

Billed as the first arcade-style flight combat title for the PSP (a
position actually held by Namco's Ace Combat), there's no screens as
yet - we're assured the updated After Burner: Black Falcon will
remain true to spirit of the arcade original.

You'll fly an assortment of licensed planes and fire a wide range of
exotically-priced weaponry in an effort to recover 13 stolen top-secret
fighter jets.

You'll also be given the ability to customise the game's 19 officially
licensed military planes. As well as arming each military jet with your
own choice of weapons, you'll be able to pimp your ride by installing
new engine components for faster, more manoeuvrable fighter planes.

Bringing After Burner fully up-to-2007 will be a range of multiplayer
modes, including both competitive and co-op options.

"As huge fans of the original After Burner, we're delighted to
re-imagine this classic arcade franchise," said Bob Stevenson of Planet
Moon Studios, who'd better stop dreaming and start programming if his
game is going to arrive in spring 2007 as scheduled. "Building After
Burner: Black Falcon from the ground-up enables us to craft the game
with PSP features in mind, with all-new multiplayer modes, customisable
jets and over-the-top gameplay."

"Most importantly, it's approximately 9,000 per cent more portable than
the original arcade cabinet," he added, wittily doing the maths that we
didn't earlier.

Happily, this new After Burner sounds anything but lightweight. Click
'Track It!' to secure a lock-on.
