Go to one nearest you right away if you want to preorder a PS3.
They are in very limited supply!

I was able to get on the list. Saves me the hassle of camping out.

Awesome.
I stumbled across the preorders by accident today. I didn't even know they
were going to take any at all.
I intitally was going to wait to get a PS3 but I figured since I they were
availble why not. I got 3.

Or buy the superior Xbox 360. Why the hell would you include this post in
the xbox forum where people have already made their decision. Perhaps people
will appreciate your announcement, but it can also be seen as a disgusting
act of fanboyism.

Because, believe it or not, some of us posters in the Xbox group are
interested in all the systems. I plan on getting a PS3 eventually,
just not right now when they are asking the insulting price of $600.
Besides, the price will more than likely drop in the spring.

How did you accomplish that, pray tell, when EB/Gamestop is limiting
preorders to one unit per household?

http://www.gamespot.com/news/615952...estnews;title;0

Also note that, unlike previous preorder campaigns, customers are *not*
guaranteed a PS3 on Launch Day, likely due to the low allocations (as
little as 8 units per store in most markets, 16 per store in certain select
markets).

Yeah I know and they are being very strict about it.
I went with a friend to one location and my wife went with a co worker to
another.

Begs the question: why crosspost this in an Xbox NG? (rolling eyes)

I know and I am going to kick myself HARD when it happens.
Just like I did with the original XBox.

I wish I had your patience.
I promised myself (broken of course) I wasn't going to purchase a PS3 at
launch for myself or my son.
My son isn't even asking for one for Christmas but knowing him I preordered
one anyway.

Well, some 360 owners might've been interested in picking up a
pre-order and then sell it for a couple grand to buy more 360 games.
Or just to have 'cuz it's cool. I looked into the pre-order for my
local EBGames, but I was too late to get in on the 10 units they had
allotted... oh well.

But it got me thinking: ten units? This same area store got (and
delivered) 18 Xbox 360's last November. Is EBGames just hedging its
bets, or are we looking at yet another reduction in the number of PS3s
available on launch date?

I didn't want to waste time posting it 3 times individually incase someone
read it and had time to go preorder one.
Unlike you and 'possibly' a handful of others on here, we are gamers and
purchase more than one system/console to game on.
I have purchased and or owned 'almost' every system or console ever made and
usually in multiple numbers.

I always do.
I camped out for the PS2, XBox and 360 even though I had them all preordered
just for that very reason. You can't rely on preorders.

I'm quite sure that my nearest EB or Gamestop will tell me to bugger off
and come back in a few months time when it gets closer to release.

The local Gamestop here had 4 pre-orders. They were gone immediately.
LOL. The PS3 is going to sell out at launch, but it's going to sell out
a pathetically low number.

I think they're hedging their bets. I don't think the actual distribution
numbers are known yet, are they?

The irony of Jonah complaining about PS3 news posted in the Xbox group.

Sad thing is that the EB/GS workers probably took all the preorders for
themselves.

Better that they hedge than assrape customers like they did with the 360
launch. Some people who preordered before the 360 launch didn't get their
machines until the spring.

No thanks. Let's pretend for the moment that I actually wanted one -
even if you did preorder it, they will just get in less than they sell
so you would likely not be getting one unless you preordered in like
May.

Agreed... followed by ending up directly on Ebay...

Heh, maybe that should be the new commercial:

PS3 - Apply directly to Ebay
PS3 - Apply directly to Ebay

Actually they are taking less preorders then what they think they will get
in. They (EB / Gamestop) don't want to go through what they did when the 360
launched and where their orders were cut in half by MS because of a deal
they had with Best Buy at the last minute (according to EB and Gamestop of
course) ;-)

The odd thing about the pre orders at EB / Gamestop was they were asking
everyone that walked in which package they wanted ($499 or $599). That
would leave me to believe they are just playing it safe for now. I wouldn't
be surprised if they take more pre orders in the next week or 2 once they
get a better picture of just how many units will be available to them. That
is where they will once again dig themselves into another hole with the
gaming public. Allowing more preorders then they will be able to fill.

Unlikely. EB/Gamestop limited employee PS3 preorders to 2 per store.

True, but you still have to put down $100, which will make Gamestop a
nickel or 2 in interest per customer. If you don't get your PS3 for
whatever reason, do they give you the interest? ;)

I got a better look at the ad. The clock, while melted, is clearly
pointing to 3 o'clock and the "3" isn't melted. The title of the ad is
"PLAY B3YOND" I've no idea what "PLAY B3YOND" is supposed to tell me.
Really, if you were just glancing at the ad, all you'd see is a large
black rectangle that says SONY on it. Even the word "Playstation3" is in
smaller print on the console.

Basically, you can sum the ad up in 3 words: Subtle, Artistic, and
Utterly Worthless.

Well, you could certainly consider the PS3 to be artistic, but it's
definitely not subtle as it's basically just a slightly sportier version of
the big, black 2001-esque monolith that was the PS2.

(let's leave the 'utterly worthless' bit as an exercise for the reader.)

In fact, I'm surprised Sony hasn't gone for that angle - don't they own the
rights to 2001? I would think a quick, simple, although heretical, ad for
the PS3 would be to take a pivotal shot from 2001 with the monolith, and
photoshop the PS3 in its place.

"PS3 - it's so advanced, you can't handle it."
or
"PS3 - technology so ahead of its time, you'll have to wait 5 years to buy
the proper TV for it."
or
"PS3 - tommorow's technology today, at 2010 prices."

Any of them sounds better than Sony's "PS3 - suck it up, XXXXX" type of
attitude.

Damn, I should be in advertising or something.
