I think that Resistance is getting its fair share of buzz. It has a
solid developer behind it and it looks good. It is probably not
getting as much buzz as Gears because the Platstation platform is not
traditionally chocked full of good FPS games. The press that covers
Playstation games tend to place most of their coverage on the
traditional Playstation fare such as Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, etc.
The press will place more emphasis on the tastes of the core
Playstation fan base. Also, if there were no games coming out in the
console FPS genre that looks as promising as Resistance, during the
same time frame, more coverage would be placed on it. Resistance
does look good but Gears looks GOOOOOD! Insomniac is a GREAT
developer but they have never ventured into the FPS genre. The press
is not as willing to give Insomniac the benefit of the doubt as much
as they give Epic, one of the pioneers of the FPS/action genre. If
Epic decided to develop a platformer, the press would not give them
the benefit of the doubt either. Epic is also known for their online
multiplayer and they have tons of experience online with the PC and
Xbox. Gears' versus and full online co-op modes coupled with the
proven Xbox Live service and built-in shooter fan base makes Gears a
very exciting proposition indeed. Don't get me wrong, Resistance
looks great and 40-player versus multiplayer sounds great. But the
lack of online co-op and Sony's reluctance to give any details about
it's online service leaves a huge question mark.

I think the buzz does come close, It is just hard to compete with a
chainsaw bayonet or a curb-stomp! :-)

I hate the whole "Halo-killer" moniker. I am pretty sure that
Insomniac does too. Halo never "killed" Half-Life. Halo became a
phenomenon just like Half-Life, Mario, Metal Gear or GTA. Resistance
could possibly do the same.
