I think the "insert name of popular game here" Killer notion is silly. I
mean, was there ever a Doom Killer? How about a Half-Life Killer?? I think
the only thing that killed HL was HL2. And that was mostly by visual
standards. Consoles have yet to come close. Great games will set a standard
for all to live up to, no matter what. Instead of saying the game kills a
game... how about a game being called a console killer. I think that holds
more weight. Halo sold consoles. Its hard to prove, unless you can find a
list of sales receipts that show people buying Xbox and halo at the same
time. But we all know it as fact. Will Resistance sell consoles. Probably.
Would it have generated the same buzz on 360? Probably not, but only because
its not a launch game. If it were at the 360 launch, I think it would have
had more people interested. The buzz behind Gears of War is warranted. Its
an amazing looking game. However, I think the spotlight is too much on the
cover system. Every video you watch is about covering and then firing...
minus that little tiny bit where cliffy takes the buzz saw to the guy behind
the pole. The execution of the 'run and gun' or rather 'run and saw' was
sloppy. It looked dangerous. As though you wouldn't last long out in the
open. That bothers me, because I don't want a game that doesn't allow me to
succeed in my own way. I don't want to be forced to cover shoot every enemy
that is at long distance. If anything I think the buzz around Gears of War,
while bigger than Resistance, is a bit overrated.

As far as comparing that to Resistance, GoW is definitely better visually.
Resistance will end up being more fun, simply based on the variety of
weapons.

I look at it this way. Doom on PC really got FPS off to a big start, when HL
came along, everything changed. The same will happen for Halo. Halo got it
started for consoles. Something is bound to come along and changed
everything.

I'm sure there are plenty of Golden Eye players out there that will
disagree, but you see my point. There's no such thing as a Game Killer. The
only thing that really kills a game is a fantastic sequel.
