FEED that Sony said Games for the upcoming PS3 Will be between
$75.00-$85.00 ... Saying the cost to produce a game is very
expensive. Anyone else hear this.?

They are $60. Higher prices are just rumors spread by Xbox trolls.

That's the likely MSRP for games in Japan (converted to dollars). Prices
for software in Japan tend to be more expensive than the US. The only
thing useful about that is the trend, as PS2 games in Japan are around
$60-$65.

The prices here will be interesting. Will Sony (and 3rd parties) eat the
cost to be competitive? Will they go with the higher price?

Or will we see the equivalent of airline ticket pricing and MS will match
Sony's prices just to make more money? Or will Sony drop prices later?

I suspect PS3 games will have the higher price, but expect retailers to
drop prices to "bargain" levels much faster.

I Sure hope so for Sony's sake... but why would they quote
$75.00-$85.00 price meaning its what japan would be spending makes no
sense. I think when all the dust settles alot of people will be
surprised... $600.00 for the system & perhaps $60.00 per game Santa
better go rob a bank this season. lol

G4 lost all credibility as a technology reporting channel when they got
bought out. They fired anyone who didn't immediatly quit, and actually
knew something about computers, games or technology in general. The few
times I've watched G4, they've done nothing but fawn over anything that's
tossed their way so they're not even useful for reviews.

G4 apparentally doesn't realize that games have always been more expensive
in Japan when compared to US prices. This has been true since the days of
the NES. Also, since PS3 titles are more expensive than their PS2 or PS1
predecessors, the price in Japan would also be higher, right? I mean,
that's just simple common sense.

The $75-85 quoted is the price after you convert yen into US$. That does
not mean that the games will sell for that same price in the US - but
again, many so-called journalists just assumed that games sell for the
same price world wide, leading them to conclude that the PS3 games would
be more expensive than the 360 ones.

I agree that $60 is an awful lot for a game. Heck, even $30 is too much
for some titles in my opinion... I, for one, will definitely be waiting
for the inevitable price drops before seriously considering any purchases.

Personally I wait till prices drop down to $19.99 unless its an
amazing title like Call of Duty with 5 STAR Reviews all around. If it
costs 10 million to create a game then even at 10.00 they need 1
million purchases to break even. not blaming developers but costs are
outrageous.

Exactly.

The only time I'll pay full price for a game is if it's somewhat rare - like
Disgaea, and actually, most of Atlus' titles... These games usually don't
get price drops, don't become bargin titles, and even used copies are about
as expensive as the new ones.

If it's a game I *know* will become a budget title, I'll wait. Otherwise,
I'll try to find it on sale for $30 or so.

Another algorithm I use is to divide the estimated time I'm going to spend
playing into the price. For instance, if a game costs $40, but I know I'll
finish it in about 20 hours, that's about $2/hr. Generally, I like to go
for $1/hr or less (the lower, the better.)

I play a lot of RPGs, and pretty much know that a Final Fantasy is going
to give me between 80-100 hours of play - which would mean even buying it
at full price ($50) is still a good deal. However, I also know that Final
Fantasy will hit the bargin bin, so I know I can wait and pick it up for
$20. In the meantime, I can go buy other games...

This requires me to intentionally stay behind the curve - which isn't such
a bad thing really. First, it forces me to be pickier about what games I
actually buy, and second, it pushes me to actually play (and finish) those
games I do buy. This also allows me to get better information about a
game, rather than simply relying on first blush type reviews which usually
only covers a few hours or a partial playthru at best.

I guess something like GameFly could be a good system as well - especially
if you're interested in action titles (COD2) which tend to be on the short
side. And if nothing else, it lets you try games before buying them.
