Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks

| Anyone play this game yet? I like it.
"Shaolin Monks does something that no other non-fighting-based MK game
has managed to pull off: It provides quality fan service to dedicated
Kombat aficionados everywhere. Apart from actually putting together a
completely decent gameplay engine, Shaolin Monks is so ridiculously
chock-full of hidden goodies and subtle wink-and-nod-style in-jokes
that anybody who professes to have a degree in MK will be hard-pressed
not to come away entertained."

What are your thoughts on the game?

| I'm playing it also. It is extremely better than what I was expecting.
I guess I was expecting something more along the lines of the Konquest
Mode from MK:Deception. Completely wrong. This is more of an action
3d platformer along the lines of God of War. Graphics and quality
aren't that good but the game is in the same genre. MK:SM is going to
have a long shelf life as there are 4 playable characters in the SP and
Ko-Op games, a versus mode, and MKII (which I can't wait to unlock,
it'll save me the $10 from buying that Midway Classics for it)
The Ko-Op mode allows two players to cooperatively play the game. This
is definately I high point for this game. Too bad it doesn't support
online but plays very good none theless. I'm suprised how much from
the MK fighting games are in this game. Fatalities are fully intact.
I'm not sure if I like them in there or not. In a SP game you don't
mind them. But in the Ko-Op it definately gets in the middle of the
action when you or your friend is always pulling off fatalities. They
give you decent boost in exp to buy new moves so they tend to be used
alot. Just like all of the MKs there are hidden secrets to uncover a
plenty and most require two players to unlock them and it seems like
you need to return to areas with newly learned moves to unlock some of
them.
The actual fighting in the game is a little messy and could be a little
more tight. Especially in 2P mode when your character can get pretty
small its hard to see what your doing. Its tough to tell which enemy
mob you are actually focused on. Some neat things i've noticed is that
computer mobs will sometimes fight each other and sometimes work
together to do special moves. I'm playing on Hard it is a pretty
adequate challenge. Although I am playing right now with my 9 year old
son who has no concept of blocking and tends to pull off the same
special moves over and over. Might be easier with a more competent
player.
