Wow, I didn't know how a racing game could possibly get faster or more
exciting than the last Midnight Club Dub Edition -- or the last iteration of
Burnout, for that matter -- but Burnout Revenge does indeed raise the bar.

I would say that this game delivers edge-of-your-seat thrills and spills,
but the feeling is more like pushed-back-in-the-cushions, as the feeling of
speed is so intense.

What is new to the game this time around is the ability to "check
traffic" -- i.e. knock other cars and light trucks traveling in your
direction around like bowling pins. Knock another car into the path of one
of your racing rivals and voila, another chance for a takedown!

Also new are a huge variety of shortcuts and alternate routes, many of which
feature some major air time. Whoo hoo!

I also appreciate the high level of spit and polish this game shows. The
graphics are spectacular -- it's hard to imagine how the Xbox version could
look better -- and the sound is stupendous as well, with crashes sounding
like a solid impact, not the tinny tinkle the early games in the series had.

I have been playing a few hours and have only scratched the surface of this
amazing arcade racer. I don't see how any Burnout fan could be disappointed
with this latest edition.

Meanwhile, I also picked up Burnout Legends for the PSP, and while it's
really sort of a reworked Burnout 3 for the little handheld, it also moves
to the very front of the racing titles available for that system as well.
In terms of both speed and excitement, neither Ridge Racer nor Wipeout Pure
compare!

At any rate, I recommend both new Burnout titles highly, and no, I don't
work for Criterion or Sony or EA or any hardware or software company. I'm
just an old head who's an old hand at racing games, and I am very pleased
with these new titles...

I haven't opened mine yet but I am looking forward to it.

I have never played a Burnout before but I can't put my PSP version down. I
just wish they didn't assume that everyone has played Burnout before because
I am very lost on the terminology used in the game and I find myself lost.

Where are you lost? If you're wondering how to progress to higher levels,
you need to win the Grand Prix events. If you're looking for the crash
events, hit the square button when you're on the world map screen.

About the only strange terminology I've encountered here are "Aftertouch"
and "Impact Time". After you crash, hold down the R button to enter
slow-motion "Impact Time". Steer with the analog nub to guide your hulk
into the path of oncoming rivals for "Aftertouch" takedowns.

The "Crashbreaker" allows you to explode your wreck after a certain number
of cars have piled up in a crash event. Press the arrow button to explode,
then again R and the analog nub to steer your burning wreck into other cars.

Hope this helps...

OPEN IT! I need a opinion of the game from a reliable source.

I've been playing more of BO3 and it's getting easier to pick out the blobs
in the way foreground as cars coming at you, but not nearly as well as BO1
or 2. Something with the contrast and techniques have muddied the
foreground. I'm wondering if it's hard to see in the foreground again.

Excellent game. The Burn laps get me though No problem with White
Mountain but the Eternal City burn lap has me. I can't knock 4 sec.
off to get a gold. Must find another shortcut. Buy the magazine!!

I have no reference point. I don't even know what the heck to compare it
to. Good Lord, if I am trying to figure out crap like "aftertouch" on the
PSP, I am going to look like a total dumb XXX on the big screen. I am
probably going to open it tomorrow since I am suspended from coaching for 2
games for getting ejected from a JV softball game. That will give me some
free time to figure this crap out.

If you could see that about 15-20% of these HS softball players are bigger
than you were at 25, it probably wouldn't be so funny. I coach a girl who
was 1st team All-league in softball and honorable mention in baseball and
can throw a baseball about 275 feet weighing about 135 pounds. Its funny
until you warm up with her.

I would say that I will send you pictures but that would probably be a
little disturbing on both of our parts.

Yeah, that sure as hell isn't something I want associated when people Google
me. In this instance, you will have to take my word for each of our sakes.
