Author Raiden III arcade shmup is coming to PS2

Raiden III by TAITO runs on their 'TypeX' arcade hardware (that uses a
low-end ATI Radeon GPU)
is being converted down to the lowly Playstation2.

release date is September 22 in Japan - no word on western releases

Hmm, looks good (assuming that the screenshots are PS2 screens).

Sad as it is to admit I bought an Atari Jag (what a pile of hyped crap that
was) to enjoy the original venture.

The Jag has a few good games. AvP, Attack of the Mutant Penguins, Brutal
Sports Football, Zool 2, Breakout 2000, Iron SOldier, etc.
But then, I quite liked Trevor McFurm while no one else seems to...

The only must have game for the Jag was Jag Doom. It was on a par with the
contemporary PC version (a decent 486 speed) and it had bags and bags of
playability. Iron Soldier was very good (for the time) and Zool2 was good
fun as was Brutal Sports. Trevor McFur was shite - Rumbelows was selling
that crap for £59! The Jag died before Breakout or Blitter Boys 2nd effort
(Defender 2000) made it to UK shores. Trust Atari Corp to screw up the
release of regionless games! ;)

I see that some of the Jag emus provide more or less playable versions of
the usual suspects (and rom dumps are easy enough to find).

Some if not most of the current crop of Jap shoot 'em ups are insanely
difficult. Even the authors of Mushihimesama have stated that they don't
particularly love the genre and the fact that they think most of the current
crop of shoot 'em up games are too hard. I bought Mushihimesama on import on
the basis of those author interviews and it's still way, way too bloody
hard - the patterns demand just too much in terms of luck and judgement.
What happened to playable shoot 'em ups??

Tempest 2000. End of story here. Iron Soldier was also pretty good to
(moved on the pokey side, but hey, it was a giant mech), with its nice
simply shaded polygons blowing up real nice.

Trevor seemed like not quite a complete shooter.

Sad as it is...

I suppose that I'm in the gaming minority that has original Raiden and
Raiden 2 JAMMA Circuit boards for my 6 foot tall coin-operated arcade
machine.
