socom 3 not so hot

| I'm not loving socom 3. as a beta tester, i know there are bugs and things
that will (hahahah!) be worked out, but overall, the game isn't as good as
socom 2, because it's not as fast paced. the action doesn't start right
away, the adrenaline isn't there. i consider myself a hardcore socom 2 fan.
i haven't had another game in my system in a year straight. perhaps that
makes me biased, but on the whole, the game is too slow, too lumbering.
throwing a grenade isn't as quick to do, the map is so huge that if it's you
and an opponent left, you may never find them. ... i don't know. last
night, after playing socom 3 for a while, i logged off and went back to
socom 2 and realized that this will be the end of my socom days. so far, it
looks like i won't be buying socom 3. XXXX.

I would say that 1 out of 5 SOCOM 2 players do not like SOCOM 3. Its
unfortunate. However, i think with the change to a more 'ghost recon' feel,
Zipper will pick up more people then they lose. I personally like the new
feel of SOCOM. The only thing that needs to be changed is the old modes of
gameplay. They changed suppression so that the only way to get a draw is to
have the same amount of people left on each team when the time expires. This
is bad because now if you are the last person left, you cannot camp.
However, with the size of the maps, you "NEED" a winner, otherwise you'll
draw after draw after draw... I played extraction for 59min one time,
because it just kept drawing. I'm not sure if 'forcing' a winner is the
right way to fix the problem, but its better than draw after draw i guess.
Also, i hate what they did with the controls. I want my old SOCOM 2 controls
back.

This is true, it is slowed down some. Takes longer for the action to take
place sometimes, depending upon the game being played
(extraction/convoy/etc..) and also where people choose to spawn at, etc..
To me it is much better game overall than SOCOM2. I liked S2 but lost
interest in it fairly quick...or much quicker than S1. You can still have a
fast paced free-for-all type game playing respawn games, and likely if you
choose to set-up games with less than the 32 players which supposedly cuts
the map size to acount for that. I have only played 32 player games, not
sure exactly if this supposed feature is able to be utilized in this beta or
not...something I have not been THAT interested in at this point. I want as
many people as possible ;)
[vbcol=seagreen]
>i consider myself a hardcore
I like it better due to the larger size map/maps. I played S2 regularly for
about the first 3 months and then lost interest in it due to various
reasons...cheaters, lack of team work, just various things.

Another positive IMO, as are things like the dive get up stuff being
elimintated...or being much slower and more realistic, etc.., etc.

I wouldn't give up on it that quick, we are only seeing a FRACTION of what
is going to be available in the game, and there are various things like
limiting the amount of people and therefore the map size that will make it
capable of being more like S2 in some ways...

probably about right. I think people are really going to like this thing
once they get the final product and all the maps, etc..

Same here, this is more like what I have wanted out of this game all along.
Sort of what I envisioned after playing the first one for a little while and
thinking of the possibilites it had down the road.

In a lot of ways though it is better that they can't camp. Making them have
to make some sort of effort is the way it should be IMO. Them sitting back
and being the only one left and still getting a draw is not how it should
be. If one team takes out more of the other in a round then they should get
the win...or that is how I see it.

Something does have to be done about some of that, I have been in some of
those 45min-1 hour games and that is just TOO long. They have to adjust
something to fix this. Maybe after X amount of draws you play a sudden death
round for all the marbles or something. Not sure if that would be the answer
either. But some of those matches are taking FAR too long to complete.

That is one thing I just don't get about this beta, why did they do that
with the controls?!? To make us all play with the same exact set-up...maybe
to be able to find out and account for things/problems easier maybe is the
only thing I can think of. Instead of people experienceing things using
various set-ups or something. Not worried about it though, should be back to
normal once we get the final product. Which I am looking forward to, more so
than I was with S2 after being in that beta.
I can also say now that after putting in a fair amount of time already with
this S3 beta that I will be sticking with SOCOM for my online war type game.
I was leaning towards the EA-Battlefield game after that beta, but the S3
beta swayed me back the other way. Basically can have much of the BF type of
play playing respawn type games in S3. And also have the regular type of
SOCOm type gameplay all in one package.

I bought both SOCOM games on release day but I never played them for longer
than 2 weeks. From what you guys are describing, this game will definitely
take away from my City of Villans time.
