This article is loaded with WTF!!! First off, this is Sega giving
their evaluation of the Beta Devkits. Sega has almost destroyed itself
supporting M$ and the XFLop, so it isn't like they would be biased
against the xflop 1.5 full circle. In fact, their struggle to survive
probably depends a lot on the xflop 1.5 full circle being more than
just moderately acceptable. Also, it isn't like Sega is not capable of
getting the best out of the hardware/software. They have the expertise,
the experience and the inside working relationship and for them to make
these comments is very ominous for the performance of the xflop 1.5
full circle.
The visual quality is almost the SAME as it was on the Alpha Devkits
(Mac G5 with ATI Radeon graphics cards) at E3, not BETTER? The Beta
Devkits are running SLOWER than the Alpha Devkits, not FASTER? What
happened to that bullshit about the Alpha Devkits were only running
about 30% of what the final hardware would be running at?
And what the hell is Sega doing, showing up with a Beta Devkit at
Gphoria? Sega, above all the pro-xflop 1.5 full circle developers,
should have at least a couple of EDM pre-production hardware units at
this point. That has been the totally strange situation, although
totally typical so far, of this console at this stage of the game.
There is a big Tokyo seminar last week -- no final hardware. Here is
Sega at Gphoria -- no final hardware. WTH?
And look at the other pieces. IBM just annouces a couple weeks ago
about being able to produce dual-core PowerPC at 2.5GHz, which is
world-wide news, but the BS is that they somehow produced triple-core
PowerPC at 3.2GHz a few months ago and kept totally quiet about it?
Then, why are these Beta Devkits reported to be running at 2GHz? On top
of that, ATI has a hell of time getting the R520 designed so that it
can be manufactured with any profitability or reliability, and only get
the final design completed a couple weeks ago. The BS is that the R500
is more advanced than the R520 but its design was finished several
months ago and there is no problem manufacturing them? Then why isn't
this result showing up in the Beta Devkits which have R500 graphics
cards in them? This just doesn't add up, except to xflop fanfairy
idiots.
A big problem is ATI. They talk big about their graphics hardware but
they don't deliver. Sure, they had a time a couple years ago where the
speed was beating Nvidia but that time has gone by. The graphics image
quality of Nvidia has just been sharper and more crisp looking than
ATI. The driver support and hardware design has always been better than
ATI. What is truly bizarre about this situation is that it was ATI that
said they didn't need to support SM3.0, that is M$ SM 3.0, which is a
large foundation for XNA. Their Crossfire isn't really working and
there seem to be more reports about problems with it compared to how
well it works.
This whole thing is looking more and more like a disaster of major
levels. It is kind of hard to believe that M$ knows all this and is
prepared to lose another several billion dollars on this generation
just to buy their way into the generation after the next generation. Of
course, M$ is unlike any other company on this planet. Sales of XP and
Office are increasing, so they are bringing in many billions beyond any
loss from the xflop. That is the big difference here between Sony and
M$. For Sony, the Playstation is about their only big profit earner and
their movie studios and entertainment electronics are becoming big
losers. For M$, the xflop is their big loser but the loss is dwarfed by
the huge profits from Windows and Office. Still, the xflop 1.5 full
circle is turning into the biggest pile of bullshit ever. No wonder the
xflop fanfairies keep up with that PS3 "prerendered" crap. What else do
they have to pin their delusions on?
