Here's some TRUTH about PS3's real graphics
|
|
|
| This post is about what Playstation3 development-kits are currently doing
for REAL.
let us peer through the prerendered CG BULLSHIT, shall we?
Remember Bandai's Mobile Suit Gundam PS3 demo from Sony's E3 press
conference? that was totally 100% prerendered CG.
here it is if you don't remember:
http://gametrailers.com/player.php?id=5837&type=mov (Gametrailers quicktime)
http://gametrailers.com/player.php?id=5837&type=wmv (Gametrailers windows
media)
super smooth 60 FPS, perfect models, incredible lighting, etc. but it was
prerendered CG.
you won't get to play that on your PS3's next year.
now, here is the new *realtime* Mobile Suit Gundam demo
http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/748/748465/vids_1.html
robot models are not as smooth. 20 to 30 FPS framerate (that right there
is a massive letdown), downgraded lighting, worse graphics overall.
Yeah, it looks OKAY I guess, but pretty boring, and not nearly as impressive
as the perfect prerendered CG demo. the realtime demo, which is probably
very representative of what the game will be like, it does not exactly jump
out at you and scream NEXT-GENERATION.
who cares about Mobile Suit Gundan right? Exactly. but that's not the
point. the point is, IMAGINE HOW MUCH THE REAL PS3 *KILLZONE* GAME WILL BE
DOWNGRADED FROM THE PRERENDERED CG THAT SONY WANTS YOU TO BELIEVE IN.
this Gundam CG ====> Gundamn realtime is an example of what to expect.

I've been watching this debate for ages now. The only thing I can say is
this: The PS3 isn't in the shops yet and we won't be able to see the final
quality until then. Why doesn't everyone just give it a rest until the
first games are pumped out.
Another thing, look at the difference between the first PS2 games to come
out and the latest batch for it. It'll take developers a long time to
REALLY unlock it's potential.
SONY are big and they need to hype it up to keep people interested. I know
the vids for it were pre-rendered, but wasn't it pre-rendered on PS3
hardware?

Even if it wasn't, it doesn't matter. Your first paragraph indicates that
it should no more matter than trying to predict the winner of the 2008 Super
Bowl. Who freakin cares at this point? There is no price, no release date
and no playable games. We barely have that information for the 360 and it
is due out in a couple of months. Some people are just insecure losers.

| Funny... that RT demo of Gundam looks better than any RT demo I've seen
for the 360. And they have another 10 months to optimize it, while the
360 is coming out in 4. Compare this Gundam demo to ANYHING microsoft
showed at E3 and it's crystal clear which system will have better
graphics.

| Except that the E3 stuff wasn't running on Xbox 360 hardware, it was
running on G5 Macintosh machines with "more or less" the same spec as
the Xbox.
When the real deal hits people will be much more impressed, but that
doesn't take away from what a huge cock up E3 was for Microsoft this
year.

The problem with the Xbots is that they are used to crystals forming
from Bill Gates' XXX.

But there was just an article recently with developers talking about how
the real 360 devkits were a little slower than the G5 devkits they were
using at E3.
Time is running out. Launch stuff is going to have to be finalized
within the next month to maybe two. I guess the TGS is the next chance
to see if the real hardware really does improve on the E3 stuff.

There is NOTHING 'real' until finalized version on final hw are shown. That
goes for all 3 systems...yeah, I'm kind of anxious too and I am still
undecided as to which consoles I will buy ( at least two, maybe all
three..). Point is there is no real comparison possible at this point and
until both systems are running finalized code on final hw there won't be.
You can arue spec's all you want but until you actually see games running on
actual hw, you got nothing to compare.
