| It reminds me of the Dreamcast situation in 1999.
The hardcore early adopter gamers were planning on purchasing a DC at
launch, but they were also talking about purchasing a PS2 the next
year. Those who weren't as hardcore wanted to wait and see how Sega
did with the DC before getting one. Either way, the "hype" over the
PS2 was a lot louder than the initial buzz for the Dreamcast.
There does seem to be more interest in the Xbox 360 than there was for
the Dreamcast...at least in my area...but once again it seems that Sony
has been able to hype their upcoming machine at the expense of a system
that is already on the market (or will be soon).
I'm just wondering:
*Will the $400 Xbox 360 price hurt sales (more $ to MS, but less units
sold)?
*Will a PS2 price drop will help sales, or is it too late (the system
is already cheap at $150)?
*Will the focus on the PS3 undermine sales of PS2 titles?
*Will GTA:Liberty City Stories help sell more PSP units, or is a price
drop the only alternative?
