Author PS2 newbie 8MB card retated question.

Hello,
I have ordered a new slimline PS2 for my daughters birthday. The
Scooby Doo game stated that it needs an additional 8MB card. I take it that
the new consol has not had any more standard memory fitted. If I do need to
get an additional card, they seem to come in different colours. I take it
that is the only difference. I have only seen PS2's in black or silver so
I'm not sure why the do the other colours. I was hoping that there are fewer
compatibility problems with PS2 as opposed to PC games. Any information on
any common PS2 pitfalls would be appreciated otherwise it won't be a happy
birthday

Cheers

Peter.

They are all the same regardless off colour but the 8mb card is not extra
memory for the console it is just to store your save games on. You need one
and really it should be included in the box but they exclude it to make more
money out of you.
There are no compatibility issues. All PS2 games for your region will work
on the same console.

They prolly do it for the same reason the Xbox requires a seperate purchase
to play DVD's, just to make the dough. I just picked up one of these new
units myself so I could play GTA:SA and I gotta say, it's so thin it's
scary. I'm surprised at how they cram everything in there.

The PS2 requires a memory card for save games and settings. It has
nothing to do with the system's main memory.

Color of the card doesn't matter (unless your daughter has a preference)
though I would strongly reccomend staying with a Sony brand memory card as
they seem to be the most reliable.

As for PS2 vs. PC gaming, not to worry. Consoles are designed to be very
much "plug & play".

Hello,
Thanks for all the replies. The birthday will definitely be happy.
