The Coming Post-Election Chaos:
A Storm Warning of Things to Come If the Vote Is as Close as Expected
By JOHN W. DEAN
----

Friday, Oct. 22, 2004

The Nightmare Scenario: An Election Up in the Air For Months

It may be days or weeks, if not months, before we know the final
results of this presidential election. And given the Republican
control of the government, if Karl Rove is on the losing side, it
could be years: He will take every issue (if he is losing) to its
ultimate appeal in every state he can.

The cost of such litigation will be great - with the capital of
citizens' trust in their government, and its election processes,
sinking along with the nation's (if not the world's) financial
markets, which loathe uncertainty. After Bush v. Gore, is there any
doubt how the high Court would resolve another round? This time,
though, the Court, too, will pay more dearly. With persuasive power as
its only source of authority, the Court's power will diminish as the
American people's cynicism skyrockets.

It does not seem to trouble either Rove or Bush that they are moving
us toward a Twenty-first Century civil war -- and that, once again,
Southern conservatism is at its core. Only a miracle, it strikes me,
can prevent this election from descending into post-election chaos.
But given the alternatives, a miracle is what I am hoping for.

I'm all for a civil war... it would spice things up a bit. Ofcourse I'd have
to join the republican side since democrats are a bunch of spineless sacks

American's are too fat and too comfortable to wage a civil war.
Distractions like mortgages, rug rats, plasma TV's and SUV's have turned
most Americans into lazy apathetic XXXXers . . . which is what the gubmit
likes. Flipping on Limbaugh on their morning commute to work is about as
politically active as most Americans will ever get. Politics schmolitics,
reality TV and NASCAR are the only things Americans care about.

Um, it was Gore who sued in Florida's court for a limited recount, and if
the Florida Supreme Court had simply ruled on the current laws on the books,
the US Supreme Court would not have been needed.

This is going to be Gore's legacy, not Bush's.

Best - Krispy Kreme. Worst - Taco Bell.

I want to move to Canada so I can get Tim Horton's in unlimited
quantities. Dunkin' Donuts is fine if you're stoned, but only Horton's
has stores manned by nothing but vapid blonde teenagers. Plus, Horton's
has the absolute worst named menu item in the universe:

Tim Bits.

E. XXXXin'. Yuck.

A question, though -

On a trip to Canada, my friends and I noticed that while there surely
are some fat XXXXs in Canada, you don't see them nearly as often as you
do in the US. And, there *are* fast food restaurants all over the place
there (Tim Horton's seems to be like a plague of tasty goodness wrought
'pon the land).

So what's the deal? Are there just as many, proportionally, fat asses up
north as there are down here and they're just hiding away or something?

Well, both are within walking distance, but Taco Bell is closer.

That is sad, somehow.

Anyway, now that you've instilled a true craving for Krispy Kremes, I'll
have to buy some in the next day or two. Curse you, Mark Morrison!

I've found that the more I consume of either, my definition of walking

There is a Jewel supermarket by my home. They sell Krispy Kremes. At
least, they *call* them Krispy Kremes, but they're really just something
else, repurposed and altered to look like Krispy Kremes. They don't
taste like my beloved KKs, it's just wrong.

Never again will I purchase KKs from anywhere other than a proper KK
franchise.

You'd think there *would* be, what with fat being an insulator and our
relatively colder climate, but I really haven't noticed that many.

Yeah, that would require sacrifice. And if we've established nothing
else since 9-11, we've established that Americans are unwilling to
make sacrifices (in part because our president doesn't have the weavos
to even ask them too). Do you think Americans would support a civil
war when they won't even give up their tax cuts?

A friend of mine has a photograph of what seems to be the entire New
York Police Department descending on a Dunkin' Donuts. Some brainiac
aparrently thought he'd try to rob them...

Note to self for possible future life of crime

Avoid robbing places that train attack dogs or sell donuts.

> Is that how planet of the apes started?

No. In the original PotA, some kind of nuclear holocaust is suggested, where
mankind more or less wiped itself out, to be replaced by apes.

However, in Conquest of the PotA, the background story is given. After the
(second?) nuclear holocaust in Beneath the PotA, Zira and Cornelius travels
back in time and lands in our time. Kind of the original PotA, with opposite
roles (which is to say, pretty much like one would expect).

Anyway, they have a son, Caesar. Around that time, some kind of animal
plague wipes out most (if not all) domesticized animal races, i.e. pets,
save apes (and horses, apparently). Hence, mankind started using apes as
pets instead. As Casesar grows up, being able to communicate with men and
apes alike, he leads an ape rebellion which overthrows mankind.

In the fifth and final movie in the series, Battle for the PotA, Caesar
struggles to bring peace between apes and men, but fails, thus bringing the
time loop to a close.

Sheesh. I thought this was common knowledge.

Overrated. Got nothing on Randy's (at the corner of Manchester and La

When I lived in the UK in the late 80's, they had a Taco Bell in London.

I tell you what is pathetic/funny is that most English don't know how to
pronounce Spanish. Hearing an Englishman pronounce "taco" is pretty funny.
I guess they don't eat much Mexican food there, because they only had one
Mexican restaurant in the UK where I lived, that I knew of (East Anglia,
near the military bases). Of course, what Americans think of Mexican food
(and what they sold at this place) is more like stylized "fast food" (tacos
being the cultural equivalent of sandwiches- more of a snack or appetizer).
Maybe a burrito is closest.

That would suck because the English have nothing like a biscuit. A scone
is close but not the same (Starbucks over here has scones all the time, and
they are sort of trendy). You Brits also don't have molasses (what do you
all call it, treackle?- it's not quite the same), which sucks even more as
they are the perfect compliment to biscuits, unless you like biscuits and
gravy.

Canadians are getting fatter all the time unfortunately, our american
neighbors are a bad influence on our eating habits ;). Last time I was in
the US on business, I spent 2 weeks in Virginia and DC, went out to
Georgetown quite often to drink, and you'd think that a university area like
Georgetown would have some hot women...... NOTHING, nada, zilch.... in 2
weeks I saw 2.... yup thats right, two women who I would consider hot. I get
back to montreal and you can barely go 5 minutes without some gorgeous
creature walking by.

So it all depends where you go in Canada.... forget ontario (ottawa and
toronto at least) and come over to Montreal, ignore the french and have a
good time

Statistically there are less but we may just be behind the curve (no
pun intended!). We have a pretty serious obesity problem with the
young 'uns. Although at least the Ontario school board recently had
the smarts to ban sale of potato ships, chocolate bars, and soda pop
in schools.

Although I don't live there I agree, it's amazing how many beautiful
women there are in Montreal. Also the city itself is spectacular. Cold
in the winter though, go in the summer like I do. ;-)

Krispy Kreme does sell through super markets. Of course they're not
fresh, which sort of defeats the whole purpose of Krispy Kreme.

What would that be called? The Krispy Kreme 7 Layer Donitto Supreme?
(Seems every Taco Bell food needs a fakey-sounding Spanish word, and the
word 'Supreme')

The scary part is that it'd probably sell...

If they'd made one, it would sell. You know it would. Too bad they
didn't think of such a thing. Last I heard Hostess was heading into
bankruptcy - mainly due to the Atkins diet and that the Americans who do
still eat bread have found that real bread tastes better.

That is exactly what I meant. A Krispy Kreme is only a Krispy Kreme when
it is fresh. Otherwise it's just congealed fat.

Oh, I know it would sell. The shit people do to themselves to lose

They used to sell them frozen.

Those things can be frozen?

The concept of a frozen Krispy Kreme is just too horrifying to consider...

What happens when you thaw one? It can't be pretty...

At that point it becomes thawed congealed fat. I think they use these in
lethal injections in some way.
