Best First Person Shooter for PS2?
|
|
|
| I recently got a PS2 and would like some input as to the best first
person shooter. Online play won't be used, the multiplayer aspect is
the most important. I loved Golden Eye/Perfect Dark, and I know there
are bond games for PS2, but are others better? Thanks,
Mike

Most of the Bond games for the PS2 have been pretty good, though some of
them a little short. At this point though you could pick them up cheap
used most likely.
Definitely checkout the first Red Faction game, really good...second one
RF2 I didn't like quite as much, you might though. Try Red Faction one
before trying 2 out. Also can be found cheap these days. The Medal of
Honor games are okay, Frontline is the best of those for the PS2...again
can pick it up cheap these days. Timesplitters 1&2 are good games also.
Coming soon is Killzone which looks pretty good...watch for it, should
be out in early November I believe.
That is it off the top of my head, likely missed a few...

The PS2 first-person shooters in my collection include: Quake III, Unreal
Tournament, Time Splitters 1 & 2, Red Faction 1 & 2, Deus Ex (although it is
more than a shooter), No One Lives Forever, 007: Agent Under Fire, 007:
Nightfire, S.W.A.T., Mace Griffin, XIII, Medal of Honor: Frontline, and
Medal of Honor: Rising Sun. Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Rainbow Six 3
are also available on PS2, aren't they? (I own the Xbox versions) Many of
these games are a few years old, so they look dated these days, and some of
them have slower frame rates than others. Some offer split-screen
multiplayer deathmatches, others have bot deathmatches.
TimeSplitters: Future Imperfect and Killzone will be released shortly, and I
think those are probably two of the better first-person shooters available.
I also liked the first Medal of Honor and both Bond games (as a Bond fan).
The others all have their share of interesting elements (in Mace Griffin,
you can fly ships; XIII has cel-shaded graphics and a comic book look to it;
S.W.A.T. allows you to command a squad using a USB headset, etc.) but also
their share of flaws (Quake III doesn't allow you to customize the
controller layout; MoH: Rising Sun has poor AI, etc.).
If I had to pick one, I'd go with TimeSplitters 2. It is amazingly fast,
and it has its own level editor and two-player co-op modes, but there isn't
much of a storyline to it.

TimeSplitters 2 is an excellent single-player FPS, and also has the best
multiplayer options of any PS2 FPS.
In addition, watch for Killzone.

Can't remember about Red Faction, but the other two aren't really
multiplayer games, and don't really have proper offline multiplayer modes.
Your best bet would be Timesplitters 2... I didn't care much for it's
graphics style, but it's the most recommanded multiplayer FPS on the PS2. I
prefer Unreal Tournament over TS2, but I'm in the minority here...
