Author PS2 vs. PSTwo

Hi there,

I was going to buy my husband a PS2 for Christmas (loves EA Sports NHL
Games). Today I noticed that there's a second version of the PS2 that
has just been released.

Can anyone please advise me what would be in my best interest for
purchasing the PS2? With the PSTwo (newer one) only being out for a
short time I worry about bugs needing to be worked out. Which console
would be the best purchase?

Thanks in advance,
Leslie

The original model was discontinued before the new one was even released,
so the only way you're probably gonna find the original is probably used.
Used PS2s = Very very bad.

There is always a possibility of problems with a new system, but likewise there
is always the possibility of problems in the previous system.
There are not alot of differences in the two versions. The main 2 being the new
system is alot smaller and it has a built in network adaptor. Whereas with the
last system you have to buy the network adaptor seperately. Also the new system
is a top loader, so its alot easier to take care of the lens and keep it clean.
Personally, if I was buying a new system, I would go for the smaller, newer
version.

I just got mine and it is really small. The only problem I had was the
wireless Logitech controller module was a little to tall. But little rubber
feet on the bottom of the PSTwo solved that issue. Also the new one can't
take the Hard Drive. But since only 3 games use it its no big deal.
Personally I have all 3 systems and I like the Xbox best Gamecube second and
PSTwo last. But it really all comes down to what kind of games you like to
play. All 3 are good systems just a warning the gamecube is really only good
for First Party games such as metroid and zelda. The Xbox and ps2 have a
much broader base of games.

I would buy the PSTwo. There has been a dearth of new PS2s on the
market since early summer, and anything you buy now may be
refurbished, or worse. Besides, the playstation is a mature
technology, and surely Sony has worked out all the kinks that are
going to be worked out.

For those who have the PSTwo, does the top loading lid appear
reliable, ie. durable? Although I haven't had any problems with it, my
baby PSOne's lid seems flimsy.

The new one is smaller, quieter and I believe has a 1 year warranty vs the
90 days on the original. Go with the new one.

Get the new, small one. Its better in every way I can think of but
one...unless he is planning to play FFXI on his PS2 in which case you have
to get the old one.

Just had a thought... maybe the reason Sony's not using "PStwo" as the
offical name for the new PS2 is because they're planning on releasing a new
model with a builtin HD? Aren't they saying that they're still supporting
the HDD?
