Is it possible to globally lock out mature content in games?
|
|
|
| Hello,
Is it possible to lo ck out mature content in ALL games played on a
PS2? My nephew just suckered me into buying him this bitchslaping "Oh,
gawd this is so fake" WWE SmackDown 2007 PS2 video game for Christmas,
but its rated "T" for "Teen" and he's barely 10 years old. So I was
hoping there was a way to tone down the mature content in this and any
game that he plays.
Does such a setting exist anywhere?
Thanks,
Jeff

Not on the PS2, not in most PS2 games (AFAIK), and not in WWE Smackdown
(again, AFAIK).
The only content lockout available on the PS2 is for DVD movies, and is
based on MPAA ratings (G, PG, PG-13, and so on).
AFAIK, very few games have settings that allow one to "tone down" violent
content, and those settings are easily changed back (no password
lock for the "mature" content).
The only systems that allow locking out mature content are the newer
consoles (PS2, Xbox 360, Wii). Their lockouts are based on ESRB
ratings and affect whole games, not parts thereof -- meaning that if one
blocks T- and M-rated games, those games will not play *at all* unless a
password is entered to override the lockout. (The PS2's DVD ratings
lockout works the same way, BTW.)
Since you cannot lockout the "mature content" of WWE Smackdown through
technological means, a more personal approach may be required. You'll
need to talk with your nephew's parents and see if they think that that
game is appropriate for their child. If they agree with your opinion that
it has too much "mature content", their only option may be to take the
game away from their son.
But that's just my opinion. You do what you feel is for the best in this
situation.
Kind regards,
