Well, that's convenient. Until I see this in an interview or hear it with my
own ears, I don't buy it. I can see developers maybe taking advantage of an
extra gig or three of wiggle room, but that's not going to make a visible
difference in most games.

Paired with slower loading times.

If they indeed take advantage of it. But the hard drive only gave the Xbox
marginally faster loading times, and the majority of Xbox 360s have hard
drives, so that's not much of an advantage at all.

In the end, these are minor technical considerations and won't give
developers vastly greater creative freedom.

For nothing?? That server bandwidth doesn't grow on trees. The Saint's Row
demo was over a gig, and it was downloaded 350,000 times in one week. That's
350 TERABYTES of bandwidth that Microsoft had to foot the bill for on one
demo in one week (tho THQ might also have picked up part of that cost.) Sony
is either going to be eating those costs or not offering the same level of
services. If they're willing to swallow the bill while also losing $300 on
every console sold, more power to them. Until we see what their online
service offers, it's hard to make a comparison.

They'll have good games, there is no doubt about that. What I doubt is that
the games will be anything more than marginally better than 360 games. And
since the 360 will have a sizable lead, major price advantage and tons of
developer support, Sony has an uphill battle to regain the top spot, if they
ever get it at all.

What tends to happen is that after two generations, the leader gets
complacent and the competition gets hungry. I think that's what we're seeing
in this generation.

Even adult gamers will have a hard time swallowing a $600 price tag when the
competition is $400 and $250. Like I've said, Sony needs several triple-A
exclusives to justify that price.

We'll see.
