Dont because ign has no idea what it will look like. This is just a design
they thought up. They had so little time to make it that the sizes
are wrong.

It because Nintendo plans to have a controller shell as an option. I'm
sure they'll make it somewhat like the Cube controller or similar.

Like Nintendo (or any other hardware company) will let us off the hook
about buying a new shiny $19.99 peripheral for their new system. They
need to make money on more than just consoles. Just look at all the
crap you have to buy to get a XBox 360 wireless controller working.
Wireless Controller+Play & Charge Kit+Rechargeable Battery Pack. Of
course, you could just buy two NMH rechargeables and forget the
peripherals.
