| I've just written a letter to Nintendo of America, and asked for it to be
forwarded to NCL. They've claimed in the past that they do this. I urge
everyone here to do the same. The Revolution is a ways off, and I believe
there's still time for them to change their minds about supporting HDTV,
maybe even time to bump the specs up if they're not already on par with X360
and PS3.
I know, Nintendo is being run by idiots, and maybe they don't deserve our
help if they can't even see their own blatantly obvious, glaring mistakes.
But they're also home to some of the best development teams on the planet,
and that is worth saving.
Here's what I wrote to NOA:
Dear Nintendo,
I recently read a story at IGN.com on the subject of your upcoming
Revolution console not supporting HDTV. I think this is a huge mistake.
Let me explain why.
I'm your best customer. I own 106 Nintendo-published games, and over 250
games on Nintendo systems. I'm your company's dream come true: the guy
who's in line for the first-day sale, who evangelizes your product and
creates word of mouth. For example, I've sold about a dozen Gamecubes
during its lifespan by showing mine off to friends and acquaintences, and
I've purchased several Gamecubes for friends and family.
But that's going to change with the Revolution, if it doesn't support HDTV.
Because I have one, and I also enjoy showing it off. I've shown it off with
Gamecube games running in 480p many times. Now I'm going to have the chance
to show it off in 720p or 1080i mode with the new consoles on the way. But
not Revolution.
There are millions of people out there like me, who do the same thing I
do--SELL YOUR PRODUCT at no cost to you. You're about to lose us. You
can't afford to give up the efforts of your biggest fans, who are not
children as so many people think, but those of us who've grown up without
giving up on Nintendo. You can't afford to lose the word of mouth we
generate for you. But you're about to.
If you hamstring the Revolution like this, you lose the best thing you have
going for your company: me. Nintendo isn't about technology, and well I
know that fact. But nevertheless, Nintendo's consoles have ALWAYS been as
good or better, technically, than the competition. If the Revolution won't
be on par with the competition, then you may as well not release it.
Take a look around, at message boards, chatrooms, and newsgroups. You'll
find fans like me, who have been playing--and selling--Nintendo products for
decades. And they feel betrayed, as I do. We've watched you make mistakes
in the past and pay for them with marketshare. You're about to do it again.
Please forward my comments on to Nintendo Corporate, and ask them to
reconsider this decision.
