In a recent press conference in Japan, Miyamoto and Iwata revealed many
things about their upcoming console.

About the download system rumor that is spreading around the internet
(even here.), Nintendo says that the download-plan it's working up will
not be free (duh) but there will be many special deals. Iwata said
there may be a plan that gives you free games for buying Revolution
games. No word on if the huge 221-game library will be available at
launch, or ever, but experts doubt it.

The downloads and gamesaves will be saved on the Revo's 512MB of flash
memory in the system. However, if this gets filled up, Iwata stated
that you can transfer your downloads and gamesaves to an SD memory card
and use your computer to manage the files. Iwata also stated they will
be copyright-protected, like iTunes songs, so don't expect to send them
off to your friends.

Iwata said that they used flash memory rather than a hard-disk drive
was because "children as young as five" will be using the system, and
may damage it. You can use the 512MB to update the Revolution's
firmware (adding new features along the way) and download game demos of
upcoming games.

Iwata also said that the GCN compatibility goes beyond software. The MC
Groove dance pad, DK Bongos, Mario Party Mic, and all other peripherels
will be compatible with the Revolution.

Enough about the Revolution though. In DS news, Nintendo will be
putting over 100 Hotspots across Japan. 25 developers have jumped on
the Nintendo online service, but most of them will most likely charge
for the service, unlike Nintendo, whose games you will be able to play
online for free.

Finally, Iwata commented that the DS is attracting more women to games
than ever before. 40% of Nintendogs sales were bought by women, the
average DS game selling to 20% women. Otona no DS Training (Adult Brain
DS Training) also sold to a large female market.

That's all Nintendo had to say. Exciting news, eh?
