I was wondering..

Since both the new xbox and ps3 are going with HDTV support has anybody
heard this confirmed for the Revolution?

I live in the UK where HDTV is pretty much non existant and I personally
have no use for it in the next geneartion of console.

My question is this (for the techies amongst you). Is it possible that
Nintendo aren't pursuing HDTV? And would this allow them to make a
console that was similar to, or even more powerful than the other two
contenders simply but cutting back on the HD aspect?

I'm not sure if sharper graphics really are "better" graphics. My
favorite graphics at the moment are in RE4 not HL2, Sharpness looks
artificial to me and with so many people working on ways of decreasing
this in games anyway I wonder if it is wasted energy (at least for the
time being). Maybe this is what SM means when he says that they are
'obsessed by technology'.

I have no knowledge of the technical issues this involves, if anybody
could enlighten me I would appreciate it.

Yeah shame about that. I was looking for some sort of HDTV setup in my
new house but as you say we're the technological arse end of europe.

Unlikely. I'll be amazed if revo doesn't support HDTV.

That would be an unsound business strategy. Read on...

What he means by this is that Sony and M$ are attempting to dominate the
market by making the focus on getting the meanest, baddest console
power-wise. This will certainly be a winner for the average graphics
whore [who isn't into PC gaming which is generally better tech-wise
anyhow] and "cool" stereotype. Nintendo's strategy has always been to
pursue interesting new ways to interact with their technology, and not
push the technology alone. If that makes any sense.

Well, by not overclocking the shit out of the most bleeding edge
hardware in a vain attempt to be "the best" nintendo can design a
sleeker console. It may be less powerful (big *may* - a lot of things
can advance between the launch of the XBox360 and the revo) but the Big
N just doesn't care. It's a step up from GCN. It will be in the same
ball park as XB360 and PS3. And it will allow them to pursue their
business in the way they want to. I personally am dying to know what the
"revolution" is. If its some lame XXX shit I'm gonna be soooooooo mad...

As an aside my opinion is that the big N still makes the most balanced
console in a gameplay scenario. The GPU may have had a bit more clout on
the xbox but I still have not seen anything on the xbox that compares to
the Battle of Endor level on RL. The amount of stuff happening on that
level was amazing. Its all about balance between components. Numbers
dont mean shit.

Unlikely. I'm sure there will be 720p or 1080i output.
