Lots of practice :-).

I recently beat it finally on a hard-mode play through. Very tough.
The column tricks and such don't seem to work as well in hard mode.

What did it for me was
a) ensure light beam ammo is fully loaded before the fight

b) get as much charged light beam shots off as possible while unmorphed --
i.e. immediately and often.

c) in morph mode move *randomly*. I can't stress this enough. Any pattern and
he will nail you. After dying 1000+ times, I was finally able to get through
with minimal damage, due mainly to not getting hit in morph mode.

That is, move a bit, halt, move back, jerk sideways, then forward, etc., but
keep it unpredictable.

d) when he unmorphs, get ready, and as soon as you have control, dive into him
with a full charged light beam shot. It seems to work better if you hit close
up.

e) don't sweat the little ings. if you waste time and missiles on them, you
miss chances to hit the boost guardian. Instead, just jump around randomly to
avoid their dark shots, keeping your lock on boosty.

When you finally beat this XXXXer, relish it. This is easily the hardest boss
in the entire game. Others are tough, but this one is special. Well, maybe the
Ing emperor will be harder in hard mode, we'll see.
