Majora's Mask consistent lockup on GameCube :-(
|
|
|
| I just finished collecting all of the 15 fairies and beating the main
bad guy in the 4th (Stone Tower) level of Majora's Mask for the 5th time
and my GameCube locked up before letting me save the game again! That's
about 2.5 hours of game play at a pop, and I'm getting pretty steamed.
Has anyone else had this problem and have any suggestions to avoid it?
I've had a few other lockups in some other games on occasion, but none
as consistent as this. On Metroid Prime, there was one area that it
locked up with a disk read error a few times, and it locked once in
Windwaker. But it mostly works ok. I think it's something specific to
the game here. When it has a problem, it just freezes and repeats the
last audio sample over and over and the reset button doesn't work. If I
pop the top, the disk is still spinning inside.
Unfortunately, the Zelda Collectors' Edition is not just something I can
go get a replacement for very easily. I bought it from a friend
second-hand and so I probably can't even get a replacement from Nintendo
as a warranty thing or something.
It's weird. My PS2 never locks up at all. In fact, the last game
system I had that locked up was my 8 bit Nintendo when it overheated
after about 3 hours or so (which really sucked for games like Blaster
Master and Rygar, which had no saves or password).

| This happened to me too. I bought the special edition gamecube with the
zelda collector's game. I played majora's mask with my new gamecube and had
the game locking up too. At first I thought it was my gamecube, but then I
looked it up on the internet and saw that a lot of people had the same
problem with majora's mask. Check this out the nintedo forum website, it has
some fixes for the game and recomendations on how to minimize locking up.

Thanks. Just what I was looking for. I had thought of saving at the
owl statues and copying but it wasn't obvious to me that I could do the
copy (just didn't look hard enough I guess). Now that I know it is
possible this should get me by pretty easily. Every time I go to switch
the tower from right-side-up to upside-down I can checkpoint it there.
That will save hours.
Thanks for your response!
I'm so close to the end I would have hated to give up here.
