Well, I've got a GC, and I've got a PS2... And I'm going to purchase RE4 as
soon as I can, but I've got to say that God of War for the PS2, is a
masterpiece... no bones about it... put all that fanboy shit away.... just
like Windwaker was the shit.... GoW is the same... play this game if you
love gaming!

Amazing that one-dimensional actions games are still given such high
praise in this day and age.

Is it really in that class? I tried the demo, and it was pretty good. I
came away with the impression that it's just Rygar with a less annoying
camera. I figured I'd pick it up after I'm done with Chaos Theory, Doom 3,
Timesplitters 3, and Polarium.

I'm going to take a huge stab in the dark and assume you haven't played God
of War....

YES!

I haven't played the demo, so I can't comment...

Well, I didn't play Rygar, so again I can't comment.

Well at least you'll pick it up then. I have more experience with PS2
games, but of all the games I've played on the cube... GoW ranks right up
there.

It is a great game but I don't know if it can be considered an all time
classic. I would give it a 90% instead of the high 90s it's been
getting. I'm not sure if it's really innovative enough to be
considered a classic. Like you said, the blades in GOW really resemble
the Rygar's weapons. The other weapon in GOW resembles the heavy sword
in Ninja Gaiden. One disappoitment of GOW is that there are only two
weapons, and there are not that many combos that you can do. The level
design and presentation are great throughout and the story is not bad
by action games's standards. The only major gripe that I had, was the
heavy emphasis on platforming in the final two levels. It was too
tedious to be tightroping when I just wanted to fight the next guy.
Despite my minor critisms, I feel that GOW is one of the best action
games of this generation and shows that a western developer can be just
as good as a japanese developer in making an action/adeventure game.

Btw, what do you think of timespliters and Doom 3? I got Doom3, and I
was amazed at what they did with a Xbox. I already had PC Doom3, but I
bought the Xbox version for the co-op mode. If you don't have at least
a Radeon 9800, I dare say that you're better off playing the Xbox
version. I was really impressed that the Xbox Doom 3 had anti-aliasing
on the characters even though there was already so much going on. I
haven't got timesplitters yet since I didn't think very highly of the
last two, but the third one supposedly made some improvements.

I'm sorry if yet another game involving stringing together combos
doesn't give me goosebumps. It's old, and even then it was never very
deep or fun.

That is whole nother style of gaming. Its only fun when it has a good
story backing (like Windwaker). The biggest problem that I had with GoW
was you never feel sucked into the story. I understand that Action
games do not have a great history of fantastic stories (especially when
you compare them to RPG's) but GoW really did fall short in my opinion

I got Doom 3 on Xbox specifically for the system link co-op mode, which I'll
be trying in a couple of hours. So far I've only played the solo, and
though the game is an absolute technical wonder, it's also boring. They
should've called it Quake 4, because it is just like Quake. Small enemy
count, cramped rooms, etc. Although the levels in Quake were never quite
this cramped. I'm hoping co-op will be its saving grace. Otherwise the
only good thing in the package is the built-in original Doom co-op (with
Doom 3 controls, ugh).
Timesplitters 3 is fun, but dorky as hell. The characters are laughably
retarded and the story is dumb (intentionally, I hope), and it makes for a
lighthearted playthrough of what would otherwise be a not-quite-standout
FPS. Free Radical needs to stop making all their games using their stolen
N64 Goldeneye engine and learn how to do modern graphics--though their
animation, particularly on the character models, is top-notch.
If you didn't like Timesplitters 2, I don't see any reason for you to get 3.

I've never understood how anyone could consider any videogame's story
"good". Maybe that's why I don't like RPG's, because they rely so heavily
on the story. To anyone who's ever read a book, videogame stories (even
RPG's) are lousy. To me, a story in a game is just an excuse to play the
game. If it had a good story, it wouldn't make a good game, and vice-versa,
which is why games and movies are so incompatible.

Except for Baldur's Gate 1&2.
