For some reason, I can't see your posts, crymad. Does your news service
carry alt.games.video.nintendo.gamecube? I thought I replied to you before,
but now I'm having to reply to a reply to you.

Anyway, I'm familiar with the Vetrex. It has a joystick, like many other
devices of the time. It was never claimed to be a thumbstick, and it
certainly doesn't look comfortable to use with your thumb. There were many
devices with such small joysticks, all the way back to original radio
oscilloscopes --like the one I used at the NSA. Claiming it's a thumbstick
to avoid crediting Nintendo is really reaching.

Now that's a much better argument, and a truly original controller design.
It's actually a thumbstick--designed and billed as such.

Oh, "we" can say all that?
Let's see, first, I never said Nintendo was first with left-side controls or
extra buttons. I said the NES pad was not copied or similar to the Atari
2600 controller. Putting words in my mouth so you can "correct" me is
pretty sneaky.
As for platform games, I must have missed another post. When did "we"
decide that? And you almost had the analog thumbstick thing, but not quite.
I didn't even have to mention--again--that the N64's thumbstick isn't
analog, but a newer degree-sensing digital technology.
