I don't think there is anywhere near the "nerd" factor to gaming as it
was, it has changed dramatically in the past few years. While there is
still some out there what Fred is projecting it to be is what it was 20
or so years ago and not really what it is today. Gaming is much more
commonplace and accepted in public and by the masses. The people that
started playing games when they first came out (like myself) are now
parents and still playing them and playing them with thier children, or
introducing gaming to them. Not like when I was a kid and it was seen by
adults as something ridiculous, a waste of time, no merit to it at all,
etc..

As far as skipping an entire market/kids. That happens with most
products like this, initially they are out of reach of the average kid
but in time as they sell more and production costs come down they will
be cheaper and reach a larger audience. There will still be a large
portion of kids who end up with one anyway, those that are spoiled and
parents that are not smart enough to realize this is not something
children under a certain age need to have anyway. Need to reach an
age/point of responsibility to care for and handle something like that IMO.
