Anyone have any suggestions on how to defeat this boss? Not having access
to power ups, and your energy constantly being drained from the dark
aether makes it a real tough battle.

Yeah, that boss was a prick. Actually, you do have access to power ups.
When the boss goes into a liquid form, he will summon the smaller ing.
Either shoot the crap out of them, or bomb them while in the morph ball.
They will drop small and medium health packs. Finish the smaller ing with
either the dark or light beam if you need ammo for either. You won't need
them for this fight though. When the boss is bouncing around the room,
either jump like a bastard to avoid getting smoked or go into morph ball so
you can roll around and dodge. I recommend the morph ball because the
camera view will become top down so you can dodge a lot easier and see where
the boss is. When he becomes solid, charge up your power beam. Once you
get a clear lock on him, use a super missile since they do massive damage to
him. You be able to hit him with 2 super missiles before he becomes a
liquid again. Once he goes into liquid form, then you should use morph
ball. The liquid will follow you around the room so drop bombs like crazy.
This will force him to go solid again. You guessed it, more super missiles.
About 5 or 6 super missiles and he's toast.

Good luck.

Be sure to use the Light Beam whenever possible. This makes fighting the Ing
soooo much easier.
