how come there are no PlayStation Portable or Nintendo DS newsgroups? both
machines are now released in Japan, and the DS is also here in the U.S.
it's now time for their own newgroups.

You could propose them, but you would have to go through the proposal
procedures which can be time consuming and confusing. UK group has now been
created and I think it took a couple of weeks to do.

Yeah, the gods that be are beyond XXXXing anal. Do a google groups search
on submitting a new group and you will see how these guys act about it.
But, yet, there are some completely absurd ones like alt.alt.alt.alt

Anything starting with "alt" has no rules about creation. The document
you speak of is only for the so-called "big-8" - soc., comp., news., etc.
The alt groups were considered "informal" at best. Everything else, like
uk., etc. is considered a local group and technically shouldn't be
propagated worldwide, but again, most folks don't really do a good job at
being a news admin.

Personally, I don't think there needs to be DS group per se...why can't it
use the existing GameBoy groups? A PSP group - sure, and maybe just a
group about handhelds in general (though I can just see that group turning
into a massive troll and fanboy infested flame-festival...)

Since I learned that I suck at lotto on Monday - and it is past midnight - I
have once again learned something new this day. Thanks!

The new UK one covers all handhelds - gba, ds, psp, etc.

Why? There's not enough traffic in the groups to begin with to warrant the
new groups.
