Author Unfinished/Unreleased professional games...

'ello all,

In another thread, of in ASG, I got to thinking: What it we can come up
with a list of unfinished/unreleased, professional(not hacks) games for
the Sega CD and Genesis, one which we could send on over to Good Deal
Games or Older Games?

Seems like the stuff that was finished would be the easiest for them to
go bakc and seek publishing rights, but as you may know, they also put
work in on finishing up older works(like that new Sega CD fighter they
recently acquired).

So, with that said, anyone who knows of any unfinished/unreleased games
for the Genesis and Sega CD, please contribute to the list. I'll send
it off once we run out of titles...

Unreleased(either known or thought to be finished)
Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures(Lucas Arts)
Fido Dido(JVC)

Unfinished(beta's, etc)
Time Cop - Sega CD(JVC)

I've drawn a blank past those few, but I had quite a few on my
mind...so I'll come back and add to it.

Finally, I wonder, what would these guys' stance be on DC stuff? With
the DC able to play CD-R's and most DC games fitting on a CD anyway,
you'd think they'd look into that.

On this topic? I'd like to seriously explore the idea of unfinished
localizations, especially of the RPG or adventure titles. If the
developers of the time are to be believed, there are piles of translation
notes lying around for games that Sega just didn't think would sell in the
States. There might be licensing issues to consider, though.

There are new Dreamcast games being released in this form. Maqiupai is a
Shanghai clone, and then there's the venerable Feet of Fury dance game.
Most of the new Dreamcast games are original works rather than unreleased
or unlocalized games, since again there are licensing issues.

Yeah, there's gotta be quite a bit out there. One I was thinking about,
and dammit I can't remember the name right now...but it always looked
so cool to me, and was said to be pretty far in. Once I can remember
the name I'm adding it to the list as "unfinished".

A lot of times, I can't figure out what any of these dev's would have
against selling the rights to publishing an unreleased piece of their
work. Just to get it out there would be my main concern, and making a
few bucks off it wouldn't be bad either.

Naw, Gamecube. The Plus pack version, as a matter of fact. I'm thinking
about blowing a few bucks on a Hunter's license for the few months until
Universe comes out, just to have one again.

Back on topic? There are two Phantasy Star games for Sega CD that never
made it to the United States. Don't get your hopes up though, as they were
menu-driven text adventure games with very little in the way of graphics.
Be nice to have them in English though.

Hmmmm, import only? What's it all about? Is it based on Blue Burst or
whatnot?

Once I get my stuff out of storage, I'd like to pay for just another
month of PSO on the Xbox, see if I can finally get three other people
to go *all* the way through the game with me.

Yeah, the text adventures that came on the "Sega Game Can" discs. You'd
almost think that they might be translated via a homebrew and then
released via a patch, that you could add to the ISO, burn and play. I
don't think anyone has attempted it yet, though...

The only thing that differentiates the Plus pack from the regular edition
episode 1+2 release is the bugfix and the inclusion of most of the
downloadable quests. Oh yes, the plus pack also removes the broadband
loader vulnerability present in the original software. Japan and the US
both got local versions of the Plus pack, which is a standalone budget
release and doesn't require the original game.

From a completist's perspective, is there anything in those games that
adds to the story? PS Gaiden on the Game Gear actually had some meaningful
plot development if you paid attention, so I imagine that the text
adventures would be interesting to a Phantasy Star fan.

Wow, that's interesting. I don't really keep up with the GC scene, so
that's all new to me. I wonder how many quests are now downloadable on
the Xbox version...it was always so far behind all the quests available
on the GC and PC. You'd think that, with the Xbox's HD, they could
have given it all the extra content of the Plus pack and maybe even of
done some of the Blue Burst stuff. Of course, Sonic Team doesn't seem
to care for the Xbox, and PSO even making it to it always looked like
more of something done by MS more than Sega...

I'm not entirely sure if it added anything or not(can't read Japanese).
If you want the games though, just shoot me an email, I've got both.
You can burn them and play them in an actual Mega CD, or via an emu. If
nothing else, you could at least see if there's been anything added
plot-wise.

I don't blame you there...;)

I don't know of any, but the topic reminded me of the Escapist
article on the underground collecting circles that collect rarities like
unreleased games.

Hey fantastic read that was. My eyebrows were particularly raised by the
mention of people playing Shenmue on Saturn. I have seen the video of it
running & was damn curious afterwards....
