Sega genesis - Sonic Japanese version

I am trying to access this in Sonic Mega Collection on the Gamecube.
On GameFAQs, it claims that the default version of Sonic 1 is the
Japanese version and gives a code to switch to the US version (with
fewer levels of paralax scrolling). The problem is that the UK version
of Sonic Mega Collection has the American/Euro version of Sonic 1 and I
can't find a code that will enable the Japanese version in that.

Can anyone help?

Have you tried using the code that's available for the US version, on the
UK version yet...just to see if it works?
