Can someone tell me which sports games to get for the Genesis if I
only want a couple of each genre (American football, baseball,
basketball, hockey)? There seem to be so many available, and I
suspect that most are crap. Someone told me that the best American
football game for the Genesis was Madden 95 and the best hockey game
was NHL 93 by EA or something. Any ideas? I heard NBA Jam is a great
game too, though not realistic.

I'm also looking for a good boxing game for the Genesis system, if
there is one.

Thank you.

If you're looking for fun arcadey games, you can't go wrong with NBA
Jam. Also very fun (and very different) are Mutant League Hockey and
Mutant League Football.

also, I'm crossposting this to rec.games.video.sega because there are
some people there who don't read this group that may be able to help you
out.

I never spent much time with the real football games, but I did play a
lot of Basketball games on the Genesis - and EA's _____ vs ______ and
the NBA Playoffs were a lot of fun. I think you can get NBA Live '97 on
the Genesis if you're looking for more in depth play. Tecmo also
released an NBA game on the Genesis, but I never played that one.

Other than Mutant League Hockey, I didn't play many hockey games on the
Genesis because I liked Blades of Steel on the NES so much. Didn't need
to buy a new game when my old one still did it for me, you know?

My personal favorite NHL version was NHL'95, but both NHL'94 & NHLPA'93
were good. I also enjoed Pigskin Foorball and both Mutant League
Football & Hockey. The only boxing game I enjoyed on the Genesis was
actually for the 32X, Toughman Contest. For baseball, I enjoyed World
Series '95, but the Saturn version is far superior.

Thanks for the suggestions those who replied. I was trying out some
Genesis sports games last night with an emulator and I found that
while I didn't like a lot of them, there were a couple of really cool
ones I never would have thought of -- namely the original Tecmo Super
Bowl. I'm not a football fan, but this game is really neat. The
graphics are colorful and have a simplicity to them that makes them
look much cleaner than the graphics of later, more sophisticated
American football sims like Madden or even Tecmo Super Bowl II & III.

I think one of the coolest things about Tecmo Super Bowl on the
Genesis are the animations that pop up with special events such as a
quarterback getting sacked, a field goal, or a touch down. In my mind
they're really something spectacular, though maybe I'm just easily
impressed. I tried Tecmo Super Bowl II & III and the animations were
gone. Go figure. Another neat thing are the Tecmo game advertisements
that appear on the stadium scoreboard/video screen from time to time.
Very nice touch!

Anyhow, I doubt anyone cares about my impressions of a Genesis sports
game, but just thought I'd share. I think Tecmo Super Bowl is possibly
the best football game I've ever played, second only to Accolade's 4th
and Inches on the Commodore 64.

Well, I have Tecmo Super Bowl for the Genny with box and manual up for trade
if you're interested.

Try these out: NBA LIVE (any year), NBA JAM (i dont know the
difference between JAM & TE), and Super High Impact football. I dont
know about baseball because it bores me. And stay away from madden
because those games suck. and try out ARCH RIVALS if you like arcade
basketball. its a fun game to play especialy with friends if you have
some. If you like tennis try the first Davis Cup Tennis. its a good
game.
