Interesting PD roms...Wisdom Tree games...Unreleased games...etc...

| 'ello all,
Another boring day here in the library today, so I am sifting through
some PD(Public Domain) roms...just checking them out. Ran across a few
really hip pieces of homebrew goodness:
1. Golden 20 in 1 Menu - Has anyone heard of this? It's kinda wild, it's
like one of those pirated carts that have 3 official games and whatever
no. to fill the total homebrew games. This one has a version of Tetris
on it called "Turbo Tetris", which is really well done.
2. Ecco 32X Demo - Very cool rom showing off the 32X's video
capabilities. Very smooth, great resolution. Have always wanted to see
it(saw it many times in the various mags when the 32X was first
announced), and now I have.
3. Egypt 32X Demo - I don't know why I like this. All it is is a static
picture of this egyptian sarcophagus as seen though a glass globe. I
guess it's showing off the 32X's improved coloring abilities?
4. Jizz Wars - Anyone else play this "wonderful" PD rom? The green penis
scares me...
5. Ice Age/Matrix Video Demo - Though the Ice Age demo is way more
impressive than the Matrix demo, they are both very cool. Extremely low
res, and in black and white...but just to see the video running on the
Genesis...cool.
6. Jump and Run Demo - Using one of the kids from Global Gladiators you
run through a small level...and can jump(gasp)! For your jumping and
running pleasure, there are actuall *three* versions of this one...yes,
three!!! Yeehaw!!!
7. Jungle Demo - I have no XXXXing idea what is going on in this rom. It
appears like you have four bunnies up in a tree, you hit start to make
some huge, spiked stick swing by, you send the bunnies down to go get
the stuff it knocks down....XXXX, I don't know...
8. Madonna Songs for 50Hz - 57 Madonna songs are redone via Genesis
midi....um, some of it is a XXXXing disaster, some it...isn't bad.
Speaking of PD roms....unlicensed stuff isn't far off, been checking
some of that out too. Anyone try the 4 titles out there from Wisdom
Tree?
I've got Exodus, got it from VideoGame Depot some time ago, and I must
say...it's really not too bad at all. Also released was Bible
Stories...which I remember from the NES...never forget the first time I
played the Noah level...and you can *actually throw the baby around the
screen*! Still cracks me up to this day. There's another, Joshua, I
think it's called...but it's, as far as I can tell, a lot like Exodus.
This brings us to the last one: Spiritual Warefare. Have ya'll seen this
one...I mean, have you *seen* this one? I couldn't believe it...it's
actually very good...and more than just a little Zelda-like. My favorite
part about it is that you attack people with various fruits(representing
"meekness", etc), but before they die, they actually repent! It's
hilarious. Going to be seeing about picking up all three of the WT games
I lack in my library at some point soon. Oh, I also came across this
page in case anyone is interested:
http://www.planetnintendo.com/thewa...ine1/index.html
Has a list of all their stuff, including Genesis titles(released and
unreleased).
Link Dragon - Saw this one today too. It's nothing but a version of that
old game "Snake"...but with better graphics. Kinda wonder what the point
of releasing it on cart could have been...
Magic Girl - A shooter that features some really colorful graphics. The
gameplay kinda sucks...but it's not too bad. Hey, at least it's not
Divine Sealing-bad, right?
Mulan - None of the emulators I've seen this one have been able to get
past the first level's intro. I wonder how far finished this game was. I
find it hard to believe this wasn't unlicensed so much as just
unfinished.
How about some unreleased stuff?
1. Jim Power: The Arcade Game - Has anyone ever seen this? IIRC, wasn't
this the one that was going to be in 3D...as in, you put on 3D glasses,
switch the options and it's there? The rom doesn't seem to have the 3D
option. The game itself is kinda cool, really colorful and well
animated...but sadly, just like the mags said in their previews, he can
only take *one* hit and he dies...
2. It Came from the Desert - I never even knew this came out on the
Genesis. Apparently, EA did it...and it's a lot different than the
PC/TG16 version. Has anyone ever seen it for sale or whatnot?
3. Ninja Gaiden - Played this one quite a bit on the emus. It's kinda
weird...but kinda good. Seems like sort of a hybrid of the arcade game.
....and now for games I didn't even know existed:
1. Junkers High - *XXXXing* impressive. It's a driving game, kind of
like Outrun in graphic presentation, but uses some impressive effects to
make it feel less 2D. For example, in the first stage, while you're
tearing XXX down the road, polygon bridges appear above you...then later
on actual fields of grass show up(the actually stand above the ground).
I was very impressed with this one. I doubt I'll ever come across
it(it's a Japanese MD title), but man, if I ever do, I'm picking it up.
Oddly enough, right after writing the above statements...I find out that
this did come out in the US, as Outrun 2019....will be getting my XXX
out *tonight* to go pick it up!!!
2. The Russian Lion King - Yes, the *Russian* Lion King. I saw this and
thought...why would Russia need their own version, so I tried it
out...and oddly enough, it's a whole different game! It's weird...I
wonder why they did this...was Russia really offended by the LK movie?
What's the deal with all these excellent RPG's that the MD has!? Damn, I
cannot believe how many RPG's were left without any port of any kind.
You'd think that these translation fan groups would want to jump up on
some of these instead of taking on yet another Square SNES rom
translation.
Finally, has anyone noticed that there are some extreme differences
between the Sega CD and Genesis versions of Dracula and Frankenstein?
It's weird.
The Genesis version of Dracula is actually very good...I was shocked. It
reminds me a lot of Strider, the way your guy swings that sword of his.
On Sega CD, the only version I had previously played, it was a mess.
It's completely different.
The Genesis version of Frankenstein is kinda cool...but just way too
XXXXing hard. It's your typical 2D sidescroller. The Sega CD version,
however, is way different...it's kind of a point and click adventure,
but you fight out your battles in this weird 2D one on one combat
system.
Alright, that's enough rambling for now...

I'll have to check this one out.

Heheh, man, these games are just, eh. That Zelda like one sounds like a
good bet, up until the killing people with "fruits" and them repenting
thing that is. ;)

Is this one different from the one that's been around for a while? I
thought it was released in the UK.

Dah, you had me all excited, but I already have Outrun 2019! Yeah,
it's an awesome game, I was always very impressed with the overpasses
and driving over the water and such.

What was taken out of this one?

Yeah, Dracula at least was basically all FMV, it's biggest gimmick was
turning the level 90 degrees by making a video run while your character
animates with the same slow walk animation he's got the rest of the time.

It's kinda pretty....I was hoping that you'd be able to rotate the globe, or
something/anything...

It's really not quite as bad as it sounds...it more funny than anything else.
What's really amusing is sometimes when they are repenting, I guess they've
been extremely naughty as they'll burst into dust and become some sort of
flying demon, which you'll also have to "fruit" to death. ;)

Are you sure you're not thinking of the Game Gear version? I don't believe this
was ever released, sadly.

It reminded me a lot of Night Striker, except that you can't shoot anything.
Man, I've got to get my hands on a copy of NightStriker too...

As far as I can tell, everything. I mean, you still control the cub and can
transform into the lion...but past that, the enemies look new to me, and I know
that first level is new.

As much as I hate to admit it, I really did dig the FMV backgrounds, I thought
that was a pretty cool idea(hell, though it was a good idea back in Killer
Instinct). The gameplay, though, was just so shitty...and hard on top of that.

Well, though it's rare nowadays, I do find there are things I haven't
noticed, and are somewhat fun to discuss in here. Wish I could find
either more stuff, or just stuff more frequently.

Hehehhe, that'd probably be more accurate. ;)
