Disturbing Fake "Sam Sloan" postings

Ever since I left for Chicago, there have been a plethora of fake and
fraudulent postings by persons claiming to be Sam Sloan. There have
been more than 20 postings From: "Sam Sloan"
whocares@registerednurses.com

None of these postings are by me. In addition, there have been
postings From: "SamSloan" sloan@journalist.com which are not by me
either. The posting I am making now is my first since the chess Grudge
Match on Sunday.

I believe that most regular posters to the chess groups realize that I
did not post any of these messages. However, several posters have
fallen into the traps or have been fooled. Also, those who do not read
these groups regularly might easily conclude that these postings came
from me.

I am especially concerned because these fake postings come
coincidentally with the arrival of USCF election ballots. These fake
postings could easily affect the outcome of the election.

Just to make it clear: My last posting before leaving for Chicago was
entitled "Further Proof that George John is an Idiot". That was in the
late afternoon of June 24. I went to sleep early to get ready for the
events of the following day. On the morning of June 25 I left for my
BCAT class in TV Show editing, which I need to take because my TV show
is now being broadcast every Monday at 3:30 PM EST at
http://www.bcat.tv/bcat

After leaving the class I went to La Guardia Airport and caught the
4:49 flight to Chicago. Arriving there I got the cheapest room I could
find which was for $39 plus tax at the Exel Inn. Next door to the Exel
Inn was a Super 8 Motel that had a computer in the lobby that allowed
me to browse the Internet for 20 cents per minute. I used it to go
online where I found two fake postings supposedly from me.

I posted five times from that machine, all within a few minutes and
all using Google where my user name is samsloan (one word). Two
announced my arrival in Chicago. One was to: need an answer on the
revised terms!

It was then that I discovered that someone was posting under my name.
The title was Subject: Why did Marinello and Shaughnessy make a deal
with Natrol?

I responded that these postings were fake. Then, searching through
Google for previous posts by whocares@registerednurses.com I
discovered that most of these postings had been by Ray Gordon.

Thus, it is clear that Ray Gordon is the culprit, which we should have
realized already.

I believe that all of the postings to whocares@registerednurses.com
are by Ray Gordon. I suspect that all of the other fake postings are
by Ray Gordon as well. This includes the recent postings From: "Sammy
Sloan, Jr." Sammy@ishipress.com and the one From: "Sam Sloane"
Sam@itchypress.com

I suspect that all of the recent fake postings such as the fake
Beatriz postings and the funny postings under bellsouth.net like the
one about "Oriental Gay & Lesbian Wing of USCF" by Chu Wong and the
fake Cleon Jones postings have all been by Ray Gordon.

Ray Gordon certainly has the time for this. A Google Search of
postings under his regular name shows 15,300 postings by Ray Gordon,
perhaps more than all of the rest of us combines.

Please note that many of these fake postings also attack Ray Gordon.
However, this is a familiar technique. He attacks himself in order to
draw attention to himself and this gives him the opportunity to
respond. I have never responded to a posting by Ray Gordon because his
remarks are invariably so ridiculous as to be unworthy of a response

I simply hope that these fake postings to not change the outcome of
the election.

Well, that last sure can't be good, either.

I happen to agree. Sounds like Gordo's tactics. And he is, after all,
bi-polar.

I doubt it. You were going to lose anyway. No amount of fake postings
could change that.

Sam, Sam, Sam. You can't be writing the above with a straight face.
Anybody with an intelligence greater than a chimpanzee's would be fully
aware of the extremely obvious fact that you have absolutely no chance
of winning the election. For you to believe otherwise stretches the
envelope of the currently known human capacity for delusion.

The chances of you winning a USCF election are about the same as my
chances of marrying Laetitia Casta. (Maybe Ray Gordon could help me
out with this?)

Sam,

I never impersonated you in any way, shape or form.

I post through RoadRunner, and if you check the headers of the posts, they
came from BellSouth, which doesn't even serve my geographic area.

You could have discovered this if you had applied yourself.

Please correct your statements.

You post under this name from RoadRunner. That in no way shape or form
proves that you don't also post under other names from other news servers.
You don't need to be any "geographic-area" to use a particular news server.

Messages from whocares@registerednurses.com started to appear on June 4
(in RGCP). There were just a few. Then around June 18-19, there were
a few more, where whocares@registerednurses.com was posting under the
name of "R. Gordon". Now it's June 29, and
whocares@registerednurses.com is posting under the name of "Sam Sloan".

I believe you that it's not really Sam Sloan, but I would have to say,
I don't think it's really Ray Gordon either.

Whoever it is, I tend to agree with you that a lot of different
addresses and names are being used by the same person.

Leshaun Fossett suggested that it's someone who has a really major
grudge against you; also, that it's someone who is keeping up with USCF
politics.

We may never figure out who it is. But it'll probably go away after
the election. Remember the 1999 Policy Board election? There were so
many fakes and "personas" and people imitating each other on this
newsgroup, you couldn't tell the players without a score card. But
they all faded away when it was over. Just be patient :-)

Bruce

P.S. Congrats on your match win.

Or perhaps you should sue the person pretending to be Ray Gordon. Or
maybe the fake Sam Sloan can sue the fake Ray Gordon. I once knew a
man who sued himself (well, sort of anyway -- he sued a corporation of
which he owned 100% of the stock), and he wasn't even perceived to be
bi-polar. Now that would be a "grudge match."

If enough people decide to impersonate a particular poster it is quite
possible to neutralize everything he says. People will become tired of
checking for clues in the header. And ultimately it is irrelevant
whether a particular message is from the real Sam Sloan or not.

What have you done for the chess usenet lately Swartz? All you are doing is
critisizing him because you don't agree with some of his opinions. Sloan
contributes alot to the usenet with postings about international chess news,
witty chess humour, etc. I don't agree with everything that he posts either,
but I can recognize the contribution nonetheless.

There you go again. It's all about size with you, isn't it? Even your
